Yesterday was driving into work - and bringing the weeks food and drinks along.
Ready for the riding in starting today 👌

Felt a little off (Slept terribly in this heat / humidity ?) the last few nights. But last night was ‘ok’ - and hence felt a little fresher this Morning 🙋‍♂️

Sunrise is starting to appear noticeably later……🤨

Yesterday's ride was from St Ives to Cambridge via the Guided Busway.

I was planning to drive to the Park & Ride (free) & cycle from there as I usually di a couple of times a year, but plod had closed the main road due to an accident/incident so I diverted & used a road that is closed for cars over the old bridge and parked in the shade there. Still, it was anextra mile or so & St Ives town centre is very pretty.

The Guided Busway with lovely wide path all the 14 miles to Cambridge. 👍

I stopped at Histon Station House café as they do a wonderful Sticky Ginger cake!!

My route, from there to Stapleford took me straight through the middle of Cambridge city centre but it really is geared up (pun intended 😋) for cycling.

I decided to visit the area I was going to be walking once I'd met up with my sister in Stapleford so rode up one of the few hills in the area to Wandlebury park and Iron Age fort for a recce.

Once into Stapleford, I was on 25 miles & feeling rather warm as the temperature was starting to rise quite rapidly.
Lovely ride, followed by a 5 mile walk set me up for the day!
I got dropped at the Park & Ride in Trumpington, folded & bagged up the Brommie for a free ride back to Stives using my Ol' Farts bus pass 👌

It was grandson's school Summer Concert this morning and it's his final week there before moving up to Big School!
Quite amazing that with such limited parking in the village that I appeared to be the only person who cycled to it! 🫤

Anyway.. 5 miles each way, mainly on shared paths, it was a pleasantly leisurely bimble with an hour's entertainment & chat with daughter & granddaughter (who drove there) Kids these days.. Pffft..
We walked up the road for an ice cream before going our separate ways home.

Quite hot and sweaty by the time I finished & ready for a cold drink.

Nothing special about today's ride which was just going to be a loop for a little bit of shopping, until I spotted the staff in Lidl putting the Thursday Specialbuys out - just after midday on Wednesday. With one of the items being a pedestal fan and everywhere else locally being sold out of similar items thanks to the heat there was no way I was going to let this go and bought one.
Leaving the problem of how to get it home with only a small backpack and no rack. The first thought was to wheel the bike to a nearby train station, but a test ride around the car park showed it was (just) possible to either carry the box under my arm or balance it on the handlebars - so I rode the eight miles home (via a stop at Sainsbury's) mostly with the box as per the picture

Return leg was roughly the top bit from the 'R' in Ransomes and I missed 2/3 mile because I forgot to restart my Garmin and didn't notice until I got to Sainsbury's because the box was hiding the out front mount.

I liked this sunny ride, which I did a couple of weeks ago to photograph Pendle Hill at sunset so I thought that I would do the same again this evening, only this time from Tower Causeway on the other side of the valley.

It was a lumpy little ride - 51 km in length with 842 m of ascent (31.7 miles, 2,762 ft). (Todmorden, Walsden, Lumbutts, Mankinholes, Hebden Bridge, Mytholmroyd, Cragg Vale climb, Blackstone Edge, Littleborough, Caldermoor, Calderbrook, Walsden, Bacup Rd, Sourhall, Tower Causeway, Portsmouth, Todmorden.)

I really enjoy these sunny evening rides - much less traffic than during the day, warm rather than scorchio, no sunblock needed, and the light is wonderful.

After taking my road bike off the turbo over a week ago, I finally took it out for a ride last night rather than using my ebike, only to discover that I couldn't shift to the big ring (suspected original 9+ year old cable sheared inside brifter, as brifter wouldn't rotate to centre line of bike) and then a scary poor hydraulic braking moment at a mini roundabout a few minutes later.

But it didn't half feel nice to ride compared to my gravel ebike, despite the much narrower tyres and not switching my Selle SMP saddle and carbon post over to it.:becool:

That’s a FAB photo.

Might have fun getting the remains of the cable out and hope it hasn't shagged the internals; saw that a lot in the shop.

Got an early one in today before it got too hot so out at 6:15 for 33k mooch around ,it was also to make sure all was good with swapping the 650b/42c wheel tyre combo in ;didn't feel much slower and averaged 26kmh plus felt a lot 'plusher' especially on the rough fen roads.

Little loop around Ely to 'warm down' before popping in to the Bakery/Shop for a couple of croissants.
