Yesterday evening's eclipse-watch ride was a bit of a failure in terms of actually seeing what the moon and sun were doing, but all was not lost - the light was gorgeous, and I crammed a lot of climbing into a short ride - 695 m in only 28.7 km (2,280 ft in 17.8 miles).

And on the next climb...

As for today... My cunning plan had been to hide from the sun until it eases off this evening, but a friend just rang and asked me to pop over to Hebden Bridge for coffee and cake in the next hour or two so I will be out at scorchio time. If a charred heap of ColinJ ashes is found on the A646... it was nice knowing you!

I expect that I will probably want to rush back to the shade afterwards. If I do, I will see about a second ride later on. If I want extended charring time, I might head off to do my Cragg Vale loop...

Well, I survived, but by UK standards it was 'pretty damn hot'!

I compromised... I extended the ride to include some climbing, to Harvelin Park, Mankinholes, Lumbutts, and Walsden, then headed home for the sun dodging.

23.1 km with 301 m of ascent.

Not todays ride but yesterdays. I have had to work out a new route to avoid road closures that will be to November. Anyway I worked out a new route 19.5 miles and yesterday was my third ride. The first couple of times, all good but yesterday there was a lot of stopping and starting, due to cars and tractors etc on narrow lanes. To add insult to injury a part of this route in itself had a road closed sign. Being 5 miles from home I thought that I`d go through anyway, thinking that a water leak was being repaired. Wrong. No, it was telecoms with two vans parked side by side across the road. I dismounted and spoke to the chaps, all good, I walked passed their vans. When I remounted and started pedalling I was aware of a sharp prick in my under thigh and then another. Yep, I`d been stung twice. I carried on and was suddenly aware that I felt is if I had bonked. My last 1/2 mile was mainly up hill and my legs had gone. I guess now that it was due to the sting. My leg has swollen and is pretty sore. That is the third time I have been stung by a wasp on the bike now.
My average speed was 16.7 mph which was a bit slower than the previous times on that route.

A lovely ride home from work (Didn’t feel the 30 degrees Strava says). ‘Interrupted’ by a stop at the LBS for uprated front rim tape; to match the rear - and after yesterday’s tape failure and complete tube blowout.

Reduced tyre pressure is certainly slightly more comfortable - I think. And I had no real issues apart from some guy on a Mobilty Scooter telling me to get off my bike - whilst on a shared Cycle Track / path. Now: I’m not proud of my response. But I felt better and a few pedestrians around us laughed. Job done 😉

Beach was PACKED further down near the Pier / Amusements:

Another few miles for the collection 😁 And as per the Title; lower tyre pressure and gripping the bars on the inside of my grips (At shoulder width) seems to have made a difference to my right hand numbness 👌

Got in a nice relaxed 15 mile loop with an hour in Greenwich park, shared some Hobnobs with a Raven and a couple of Magpies before taking a short blast along the Thames.
But boy there were some absolute boneheads on the roads today, both cars and cycles, I watched 5 different lime bike riders almost meet their makers!
We really need some sort of incentive for new and convenience riders to do some sort of basic cycle safety course. Give them a discount on bike gear or reduced limebike rental fees for doing it or something!

Hoping for an early finish on a Friday…. I got up: walked the dog and left even slightly earlier. Hoping to do my hours at Work and start my weekend !

I also took a different route again. Why I haven’t ventured through / around the East side of the Town early - when Traffic is clearly going to be quiet - is beyond me.

Being at sea level - my fist signs of the sun rising; was when I was atop the new Bridge (again). Today the shot takes in Lake Lothing as it’s known - or the Harbour entrance - so looking East toward the Sea:

Fast forward 10 miles and the Sun is clearly coming up fast now. And looked gorgeous over the fields right near work……

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Yesterday was an early 6:30 ride to beat the heat.
And this morning I just can't be bothered 😆

I went out last night at 7 pm for a spin hoping it would be a bit more bearable and as i was only going out for a "short" ride i only took one bottle which was a mistake as i was thirsty all the way and i couldnt give it the usual speed as it was just like riding though treacle .
When i got home i gulped down a glass of milk followed by a shower then it was a 2 beer day to rehydrate .

No ride again today, for one thing too hot. Secondly I am still recovering from the sting I encountered whilst on my ride on Wednesday. I had thought it was a wasp sting but after looking things up and judging by the redness of the sting area, I think that it it more than likely a hornet`s sting. My guess is that when I dismounted because of the road closure with the workman carrying out work, they had inadvertently disturbed the nest. That is only my guess as I did`nt see anything.
Just to be aware you folks out there. It is pretty painful, as well as the redness and the itching it feels like a pulled muscle. Perhaps I should include some antihistamine in my toolkit !
