I will state for the record, m'lord, that I start from a very low baseline of inherrent racism, and the rise due to adverts is fairly small. But, in the intetest of transparency, the rise has been greater than zero.

Did your dislike of white people go up in the decades when they were the predominant groups in adverts? Or was it saved for when 'people of colour' started turning up?

It seems to me to be more than a "very low baseline" if it can be elevated by the mere appearance of black people in adverts.

Why do ad agencies treat YT as just another ad break for their 30 second tv production. After 10 seconds I sm already hating the product.
Even worse, a lot of ads are turning me noticably more racist as People Of Colour interrupt me and try to sell me stuff I dont want. Its like the ad agencies looked around for a volunteer for a dangerous mission.

It is the new 'fashion' in advertising to have ethnic actors in them.

Just think yourself lucky they're not French.

YouTube has gone really bad lately for intrusive adverts. What really winds me up though is after the advert has finished you go back to watching your content and then a quarter of the right hand screen gets covered over by a pop up ad.
I now watch my YouTube content through the Opera browser and I've not had a single advert come through.

Those You Tube adverts are doing my head in! Some videos are hardly 'infested' by them, but some are ridiculously over run with the things! 🤨 I refuse to buy something online to stop them! That's like having a shop or a bar/pub and some 'mobsters' approach you saying if you pay so much a week to them you won't get any hassle!🧐👎

I have Nord VPN and I don't get any ads.
I don't even know - can you watch YT without having an account?
If I click on it, I am automatically signed in so I could find out by logging out but i'm being lazy.
[I only ventured past the 10th General chat forum subject to see if I could find somewhere to post about the House Martins who turned up 5 days ago and are now chattering and swooping. It's always good to see them arrive].

So do I, but that does nothing to stop ads embedded in their videos.

Are you talking about banner ads?

Yes.

I'm confused - are you talking about the Youtuber promoting, as in interupting the spiel and talking about a product or are you talking about ads that automatically cut in or start when you click a video and don't get to see it until you've watched a minimum before you get 'skip'?
If I watch YT on my mobile phone, it's dreadful. So I don't do it.
If I watch YT on my laptop, nada.

Not the promos/sponsors, ads that cut in. I still get them on the phone or ipad and I can't see how nordvpn can prevent them.

Advertising has a significant negative effect on the advertised "product"/company. So many are just insulting. I don't see that many but occasionally eg late afternoon in rainy weather might be reading with TV in background. And you could subtitle them "You are probably a sucker. Give us money but don't bother asking the obvious questions ...". Maybe worst are those fairly recent startups that want you to pre-buy your funeral ie pay a moderately recent startup for services you hopefully won't need for 20 years (eg what if they cease trading, will your advance payment be refunded?).

Generally I see an advert and I note not to buy that company's product. Easy in many cases as they are trying to push cheap poorer quality.

I only use my laptop for Youtube
I use Ublock origin and it stops the ads totally as far as I can see
but obviously ads in the actualy video are there by the "creator" so I presume they don;t stop

nice to hear that there option to stop them on phones and tablets - I do get asked about things like that so it is nice to know what to look for!

For you personally, maybe. Quite often for me too.

But if that were true overall, they simply wouldn't do it. Companies don't advertise for the fun of it, they advertise to fgain sales. If their adverts aren't generating more sales, they will be dropped.
