Has anyone else noticed a massive uptick in intrusive advertising on YouTube recently?
I use the site quite a bit, and it is getting to the point of being unusable. I suspect it’s deliberate to push users to a premium service.
Is there any way around it. I watch via an iPhone or iPad.
I got the premium version years ago, even back then the ads were annoying. As someone else said, I think it only fair that you pay if you watch it a lot. I probably subscribe to 100 odd channels and some uploads are 2 hours long. I'm glad someone has clarified about the creators getting a share of the (£12.99?) fee, becaue I'd heard somewhere else that they don't do that. This makes me feel less selfish.
I don't know if this is right but there used to be browser add-ons that could block the ads, but this may not be a thing now or might not be a thing for iDevices.
The creator adverts are ever present, but for me not half as annoying as pop-in ads. The creators themselves present the ads and it is very easy on the paid version to skip these as well - it even tells you when and where the frequently skipped sections are. But I'd do exactly the same if it were me, and some of the creator sponsored stuff I've actually used or seriously considered (like Nord VPN, Saily, Incogni, Raycon ear buds). Or at least I've seen the idea and sought a cheaper alternative.
