Ive got my 16t to go on my Genesis to raise gear inches 71.6" . We'll see if its too tall or I adapt to it

Is that a big jump from what you’re using at the mo? I think in my case it just depends whether you can get up the hills. I’ve only got one hill to scale in my commute. But I often have to get out of the saddle on it and I wouldn’t fancy having to do it in a smaller sprocket everyday. So I guess that’s how I settled on the one I’m using. Not very scientific...

I might be tempted to do it fixed the following year if you both joined me.

Currently the gear inches is 67. Im swapping from 42-17 to 16t rear. The hills are comfortable here with my current setup. I can carry a shopping load of maybe 8kg and still get up the hills by powering stood up, cadence doesn't drop too much. So without swapping chain ring to get a intermediate jump and the small added cost of chain I'll try the 16t and see if my legs adapt to 7-10 less rpm for same speed.

When I lived in Beckenham I rode SS on 70 inches. Could get up everything south of the river. Crystal Palace, Anerley, Greenwich Park etc. Didn't try anything north.

I ride 42:16 and even when I was in London a few years ago I could get up anything there. I'll be doing ToC with that gearing.

Yeah I’d never bother changing the chainring unless it was drastic change needed. Your legs will defo adapt. It’s not like your cadence isn’t constatly changing anyway with the gradient in a single speed. Why do you need a new chain?

Well.

Been to the doctor and I’ve got an infection on the right side of my chest. Antibiotics for 8 days and then back for a chest x-ray if that doesn’t clear it.

I explained I only scored -3 out of 10 for this as an excuse yesterday. The medical advice is that my time for ToW2 should be reduced by 50 minutes and annotated with an ‘H’ for Hero!

bah ... I had a chest infection that gave me asthma attacks all over Christmas. Steroids and antibiotics and more powerful asthma meds .... docs would have put me in hospital if it wasn't for the fact I have to care for my wife. And I still rode most days ...... that sir is a hero  (or an idiot .... take your pick  ).

This has the makings of a Python sketch!

Pah! I rode ToW with half a lung and still @TurboTommy gave me -5 out of 10 as an excuse!

Nice try Del, but until Tommy and the excuse police determine otherwise, I'll have to go with your ZP time I'm afraid .

League updated with yesterday's results. Some very strong times yesterday have made it tight at the pointy end (just 22 secs separating the current podiumists), and close battles are being formed throughout the league. :training::boxing::training:

A reminder that next week's TdW doesn't count towards the league as it is a designated group ride.

Blimey that doesn’t sound great...

I think with this new info we will have to re evaluate your excuse score. So...

You’ve got an actual ligitimate chest infection. Which obviosuly scores far far better than a self diagnosed one. (3/10 rather than 1/10).

So far so good mate. But wait... then you went and blew it by seeking professional medical advice . Del Del Del... really mate? Everyone knows that, as a bloke, we only ever seek medical advice when something actually falls off . And even then it’s only acceptable if you are dragged there against your will kicking and screaming.

“H for hero”? H for hypercondriac more like.

(A begrudging 1/10)
