On Tuesday there were a lot more people in it but I came roughly the same placing AND it was a slower time
Think a lot depends on what sort of day yourve had - and if there is a fellow ccer looming up on you humming the jaws music

That and one more thing. You’re in a group. Your maximum pace is pretty much dictated by that group provided you don’t get spat out the back or fly off the front. So your overal time is often dictated by how hard the others in your group are pushing. My group caught your group last night. Another day I don’t see you again. It’s kind of out of our hands to a degree don’t you think? Maybe the guys last night were faster then Tuesday.

Fewer people last night and I was faster...we don’t ALL need the draft;)

I hear the next stage is a TT. Should be right up your street :okay:

i definitely can't even think of jumping ahead of a group , if i poke my head out of the draft even for a moment , the group swarm by
i am right on my limit most the time just to keep up and if i get 4mt behind it is so hard to get back in

It’s ok though bud. Bob’s back in B cat now and aprently he doesn’t need the draft. So he can lead from the front  ^_^

The weather forecast is looking poor for tomorrow so I’m going to give stage 4 another lash - aiming for the 0730h and possibly the 0900h one a go as well.

I was out in Florence with work this week. I hired a bike out there from Tuscany Cycles - some nice climbing once you get out of the city and the roads were quiet but a lot of potholes the only problem coming down the descents.

Nice. I thought Italian roads were good?

Nah, still not right. First 20 minutes was ok-ish, warmup then 85-95 rpm z2-3. Then they chucked some sprints 15, 20 and 30 seconds @105-110 rpm, and I went bang. Haven't got the lungs to spin at the moment.

I could make the power just not at the cadences wanted. Didn't hit the targets in 3 consecutive middle segments but managed to get myself back on track power wise for the last 15 minutes.

Out tomorrow with family and hopefully in Richmond park with my Brothers Sunday morning. Need to push through this rough patch without stressing myself too much. Then try to hit the ToW stg and workouts properly next week.

Try not to stress yourself too much. Over the next 5 weeks just get the miles in the legs. That's my plan anyway. I may do the odd race over the run up but mostly longer steady sessions, setting the gear ratio to the same as the SS bike and the realism to 100%. I want to start stressing my legs as they will feel during the ToC.

I don't free ride in Zwift at anything other than 100%. I remember getting caught out before when using my bkool classic and then going outside,. I thought I could climb 10% climbs,, turned out I couldn't, bkool lied to me .

Just get long steady miles Boxers, 2,3,4 hours zone 2. Try and spin early on and let cadence fall with time. Eat and drink a little but often from 30mins onwards.

I'm working on the Gran Fondo plan and finding it ok, apart from this week when I've been sick. Each week has a long session this week is 2h25 iirc. I'm going to try to do that tomorrow morning and then Richmond Park, instead of the Zwift free ride, for a while on Sunday with my Brothers.

I did the desert to volcano and back, about 30km and 100m of climbing, in just over an hour and 5 minutes. If I can keep that pace I'll be happy, but I'm aiming for about 16-17mph / 26-28kmh and hoping to finish the ToC in 6 hours or so. we shall see.

Third (and final) crack at stage4. Roughly same plan as last time -- don't spike hard at the start, stay in contact with a group near the top of the two climbs. 47:12 which is a slight improvement. Much happier with the effort as well - - right at FTP and it felt like I was holding onto my group better.

Your target time is slightly faster than mine over the ToC but may mean we are near each other at times during the ride. I'm only looking to stop to top up water and grab a snack, nothing longer; I find if i stop too long my legs start to lock up :B) The next 5 weeks therefore are just long tempo rides, burn some calories, eat a little less for 4 weeks, and hopefully drop another 2 kg so i can be 75kg. Every ounce off will help on the hills

Edit : I've tried some of the Fondo workouts in the past and I didn't like the fact that they were a constant watts for a long time with little variation. I really struggled to keep going and it didn't feel natural. Be interesting how you get on with them.

@Whorty, you'll easily come in WAY under 6 hours for the Tour of Cambs. I'm aiming for about 6:20 - 6:30 depending on how long I need to stop for and I know I'm nowhere near as strong a rider as you.

The last two times I've done it, it wasn't 100 miles admittedly, but I managed roughly 5 1/2hrs for 85 miles (2016) and 5 hrs for 80 miles (2018). On last year's ride, I went in actually LESS fit than on my previous attempt, but managed to get in a good group for most of the second half of the ride (the flat bit) and that dragged my average speed up massively, plus the headwind (and there will be one, I can guarantee that!) was really strong and in the worst possible part of the route during the first attempt compared to the second one.
