Grest write-up Martin. Brilliant power numbers:heat:. 6th:okay:.

I dont see anything wrong with taking the inside line as long as its not a last second manoeuvre at the apex. If they leave a big gap their fault.

Yep a difficult one this. Maybe I am over-influenced by my motorbike racing history. On a bicycle, I'd never dive up the inside once someone has "turned in" but until that point it seems like fair game to me. However, several riders disagreed yesterday and I don't want to hack everyone off.

I’m not sure about it to be honest Martin. For what it’s worth I wouldn’t do it intentionally. But I guess these things happen in the moment and I’m sure I have done it in groups. I think it’s a potential accident waiting to happen. If you’re boxed in while going up a straight, watching other riders go away as you’re trapped and getting frustrated behind, I could see the merit in it. Probably shout some warning too like, ‘on your left’ or similar. But I think generally undertaking makes people uncomfortable and edgy, especially going into a corner. I guess it depends how far out form the curb the pack is, how much space you had too?

Not like it was a decisive move either was it? What was to gain from going up the inside? Were you mounting an attack or just pushing through the pack to sit further up? I’ve been doing a little bit bit on the track lately. And predictable is definitely best when you’re belting along in a group. I’m assuming that’s the line the guys who called you out are taking too.

Probably not a hanging offence though!

Got another increase to 54 yesterday after my club run. Garmin Connect now telling me I'm in the top 1% for my age group and I've got the fitness of a 20 year old! I like Garmin Connect!!

I'm guessing Greg LeMond's target might be just out of reach? But I like Sean Kelly!
Gamin tells me I'm in the top 25% of my age group and have the fitness of a 31 year old

I was never this fit at 41, 31 or even 21. I have never been fit. I just need to lose some of the excess rubber I am carrying to make use of the power/VO2max numbers I have at the moment

Cycling home from the velodrome tonight and I reflected a bit on what I said earlier @Norry1. And I think now that I might be right. But I might just as well be wrong. I definitely don’t have the experience to say either way with any great authority!

Tonight the last thing we did on the track was hare and hounds. The group was split into two, and I was put into the fast, chasing group of ‘hounds’. The chest went out a little further as my name was called! ‘Well done Tommy, coach thinks you’ve had a good session’ I told myself!

The hares set off, and then after they’d completed half a lap off went the hounds. I was third wheel, everyone thundering along from the off! ‘Blimey…. This is a bit quicker than I was expecting…’ front man peels off up the banking after his half lap turn, and releases the guy ahead of me. At which point reality sunk in, nearly as quickly as it took for me to get unceremoniously dumped!… talk about feeling like a giant fraud… the bloke ahead is about 10 times stronger than me by my reckoning. I peeled off the front just about fast enough to give the guys behind me half a chance to regain the wheel ahead. And then watched them all disappear around the track, as me, and my rapidly deflating chest, climbed to the top of the track to lick my wounds and avoid getting run over and reflect on how crap my engine is.

It’s bloody great fun as I’m sure Bob will agree. As we both have goofy grins after the sessions. But I’m never going to be able to take it too seriously as it’s really pure watts over W/kg. And so I’m not sure how well I can even bluff it. Which is probably a good thing because it means I’ll be able to just keep it fun and not have big expectations. (Probably…)

I've been away from the forum for a bit - hope everyone's OK

I see the ZRL returns on 28th September - I'd be up for entering a team I think if we can get the numbers together again? (if this has been discussed in detail already, apologies - just point me in the right direction!)

I'm just recvering from a bad back and for a number of reasons I haven't been on the bike much recently so I will be very rusty to say the least - but hopefully 28th September gives enough time to at least start to get fit again!

So who's up for it?
