Shocker! My power up the climb was 40W lower than I was averaging for similar duration events back in the summer. Admittedly I was dropping the power occasionally to get a bit of respite, and I didn’t want to encourage @mjd1988 to get aggressive and drop me! Once I was confident that @Whorty wasn’t coming back to us, it was all about limiting the damage that Michael would do to me in the sprint…

Well done everybody, and thanks again to @bridgy for organising.

Well done John, you proper did me on that climb!! I should have let you go far earlier than trying to hang on then going pop!!

Well done Pete and Steve for ruining me on the 2nd half of the climb, the leg snapper and the sprint. Appreciated. :okay:

Well done everyone else.

Well done me for not dying.

Thank god it's a steady slow one next week.

As usual, cheers Bridgy, I think

Which one's Lee? 🧐
That white goat recognises him for sure. See the way she is keeping him in sight and not turning her back on him 😅

Well done @berty bassett on the win and @<Tommy> and @bridgy for keeping him honest.

I had @Legs ahead on GC and @Whorty behind so stuck to Tim like a limpet. Carl was dropped quite early on; I wonder was there a technical as you kept the gap the whole way up though even with me and Tim getting moments of draft so well done. That was a 20 min power PB for me (well equal best ever) and I was getting draft as I say so you must have been in the red

I cottoned on near the end that I was going to have to attack which was torture as I knew I'd never get properly away. Had a crack at the legsnapper (which I'd forgotten about till the cobbles) but no joy. Slowly right down with less than a K to go and just about broke the elastic but was never going to eat up more than a couple of seconds.

Delighted with that. 20min power and 5 min power right up there and had a couple of digs left at the end.

Looked like a right old battle just behind as well.

I think the times will be a second or so out for some people again
Cracking battle you two were having. I was just trying to keep an even tempo and not go into the red too far. Knocked a minute off my PB and a new best 20 minutes time I think. You guys dropped me early on when you all shot off at over 4 w/kg ... I did think about going with you but I knew it would push me in the red and I'd blow up so I had to watch you go up the road. I was hoping you'd both slow, but no such luck.

I saw @bobinski 's drop outs early in the climb ... really sh*t luck :cursing:

Well done everyone, hard course if you're not a climber.

I kept watching you two, hoping you were going to push each other into the red and blow up, just never happened. I PB'd up there, so I know there was nothing else I could have done. I'm glad I think I was on my own, as you two would was killed me with the trying to drop each other

TBF, I was just hoping that I could hold on to Michael up the Leg Snapper, and that we’d built enough of a buffer over you that you wouldn’t come back and beat me in the sprint too! 🤣

Realised very early on in the climb that there was no point trying to stay with @Johnsop99, @Joffey and @Peter Salt - much better to keep to a steady pace and grind my way up the mountain - was trying to keep my power graph constantly in the yellow and think I did pretty well at that. Ended up reeling in Joffey with about a mile of the hill to go and only conceeded 10 seconds to Peter (both of them had been 30+ up the road at one point).

Then that's when the extra weight did its trick as we came down the other side - Peter must have thought we were ganging up on him, but it's just physics! Caught him just as we re-entered Innsbruck, which is about the time that @berty bassett disappeared from the leaderboard having already finished the entire course (not depressing to see that at all, no!)

Kind of entered an informal non-aggression pact for the rest of the lap - there may have been attack attempts on the Leg Snapper, but none of us could get away from the others. Then it was a matter of who had anything left for a sprint - Peter clearly did, I certainly didn't!

PR on the full course by 10 1/2 minutes(!) and on the KOM by 4 and a bit minutes. Well happy with that.
