Paul, that does look brutal but you are up amongst the top 400-500 out of 54000 people who have ridden some sections of that race course including the 1k finish. That’s pretty impressive :okay:

Different software platforms will suit different riders - me personally as a heavier rider find the category’s in zwift great for finding similar ability riders, thus riding in a group. I’m on the edge of D Group, picked up a silver for team Cyclechat last night but in C group would finish mid table.

A few of the riders I was battling away with ended up disqualified for going over their W/kg...

Good Result Monte. Have a go with a few races in C cat. Tt will push you on and before you know it your fitness will improve to be battling at the head of C cat.
My first few races in B cat were so hard, I was getting dropped in the first 10 mins, but now I can hold onto the group much longer and yesterday finished with the pack for the first time

That is usually me Tom. I think I've got 3 to offer. You never know, we might get half of Cyclechat on TR

I’m not sure if I’d want to be responsible for that! The juries still out for me. L I suffered last night. Legs were dead weight. Plus the missus was frying up some onion, which managed to travel up two floors and straight into my eyes via the fan. Sounds a bit pathetic reading that back now ^_^. Bloody stung last night though!

Anyways... I soldiered on...

TR is extremely tough based on your FTP. I always found the last quarter of each workout tough and have regularly failed to complete. I look at it this way, if you can complete the workout easily then it wasn't hard enough

Yeah it’s tough. Defo agree you want it to be tough. But I’m finding it a little boring too Andy. I’m going to persevere s little longer but in January I might replace it with more racing and maybe an interval session once a week or something.

Have you done what Dean does, combine TR with Zwift?

I have mate. I prefer just listening to music. It’s just more fun racing I reckon.
That's the view I take and why I mostly do races. I take the view that the races provide a pretty good mix of a workout for me anyway - as the terrain changes require different types of riding - and as I find them fun and motivating I'm more likely to do them and put a hard effort in. Not as scientific as structured training sessions perhaps, but good enough for me as I'm not aiming for any specific goals other than to keep fit.

Same mate. I’m not feeling very in shape at the moment but I always get stronger as the winter goes on. My outdoor summer riding doesn’t prepare me that well for the trainer and vice versa. So trainerroad is hopefully building that cardio fitness back up. But I’m thinking in January I can swap trainerroad subscription for bigringvr, which is good conditioning for the Pyrenees. And use zwift or the Wattbike app if I want to do HIIT intervals. Then use racing to really keep my fitness up. There’s nothing like the racing.

But a word of caution even though I don’t think you race IRL, we have had club members race on Zwift through the winter, they then do really well in the early season races but get to about May and are burnt out, their performance drops right off, these are really strong riders (CAT 1 and CAT 2), those that do more structured training than racing tend to perform better overall in the season. This is purely anectodal bases on two racers out of four who used Zwift extensively.
