The ranking seems reasonably fair and accurate. We are all roughly the same, but have different attributes, climbers versus flat riders, others can do it all very well.

Eg Lee can certainly give Paul a run for his money on a varied course

I do find it odd that I’ve done two races. Come middle of the pack in both really, and am ranked higher than you Andy. Haven’t you come near the top in multiple races? I thought you may of even won one. I also assumed that you would have a higher w/kg than me.
It’s no big deal at all. I just like to know how things work I guess. So I’ll have a read up on it later. That and I’m used to ranking systems that are based solely on results over a given time period on a point system like snooker, golf or tennis etc.

Yeah, I have been looking at other results-what better thing to do on a monday morning at work? :smile:-and i tend to agree. Those of us who have raced less might benefit initially from the 95% of 20m but after that things should even up and most of us will be pretty close together.

Andy, I expect you to pull away from me in wednesdays race and so will be interesting to see how your quicker time will then impact on points.

I was promoted to a win in cat C a while back. My recent B cat results have been improving, getting around top 10 finishes. It will work out your W/Kg and make comparisons as well I suspect. Most of you have superior W/Kg to me, so my best races are always going to be flat courses. Not really an all-rounder.

I had a great ride on the Zsun social yesterday. Got bored after 3o min and took off after those had had jumped from the off. I joined with a guy and we worked as a team to jump to and overhaul each small group ahead of us. Hard work at times especially given i was a little stronger than him/her but really showed how straightforward it is to draft even when there are only 2 of you working together in rotation. We managed to make over 2 minutes on the blob of riders behind us albeit they were not really motoring.

Zwiftpower has updated the code so rankings and FAQ changed.

Note new Cat boundary rules!

1. Initial category is assigned based on your first WKG value.
2. Starting points for each category are
D = 1000
C = 1500
B = 2000
A = 2500
3. Riders are upgraded when they have gained 1000 points.
D = 2000
C = 2500
B = 3000
4. Riders are downgraded when they have lost 500 points.
A = 2000
B = 1500
C = 1000
5. Exceeding category boundaries will result in an automatic upgrade.
These are calculated as follows:

A = FTP >= 4.0 && 5min >= 4.5 or 5min >=5.5
B = FTP >= 3.2 && 5min >= 4.0 or 5min >=5.0
C = FTP >= 2.5 && 5min >= 3.2 or 5min >=4.0

If we do not have 5 minute power available a 0.2wkg leeway is applied to your FTP calculation.
A = 4.2wkg
B = 3.5wkg (think this should be 3.4)
C = 2.7wkg

Still work in progress so expect a few more changes before implementation.

Zwiftpower has upgraded their ELO based ranking system and in near future KISS races intend to use these for Cats instead of the current w/kg system.
There is a basic FAQ on their page which gives an understanding of how things work. Cat A 2500+, B 2000+, C 1500+, D 1000+. From what I understand your initial Cat placement is determined by your best 95% of 20min in a race. You stay in that Cat until either upgraded or downgraded. However, there is an overlap of Cat boundaries. For example suppose you did 4w/kg (95% Cat) in at least one race, then you are automatically assigned Cat A. You stay in Cat A unless you lose 500 pts, i.e drop below 2000 points. Similarly suppose you are Cat B; you stay in there unless downgraded by losing 500 points taking you below 1500 or you gain 1000 points to get an upgrade which requires a ranking of 3000. So those in Cat B could stretch from a ranking of 1500-3000 if I've read it correctly. It's still in Beta at the moment so will no doubt be fine-tuned before implementation.
Personally, I like this a lot. Glory hunter sand baggers will naturally find their rightful Cat over time. Everyone will gravitate towards their proper level assuming they stay active. Not a perfect system but one that should lead to fairer racing.

What do you guys think? Are you in the correct starting Cat?
Seems reasonable. It puts me at ~1700, right in the C group which is where I race.

I am not surprised I have dropped down. Time to do some lumpy races.

As Dave alluded to, it's a work in progress. I will need a period of time to collate the figures to give a true reflection. I know I'm fitter, faster than last September. A recent drop in power stats is in comparison just before Xmas where I was in a purple patch of form. I just need a few races where I'm in the running at the finish to bump up those numbers.

If you have not done so, click on your Profile tab. I think that is looking pretty sexy right now with the information displayed.
