Hey guys! Lovely community you have here and it's great to see such an active Zwift thread. Probably 75% of my riding time is done indoor in the man cave with a longer, easier (and steadily increasing) outdoor ride at the weekend. I'm working my way up to a Yorkshire Dales sportive in the summer just over 70 miles which would be my longest outdoor ride ever (and pretty much equal to my longest Zwift ride).

I like the Team CLS rides on Zwift (sort of a group ride where the leader sets the pace) but I'm looking for suggestions for ways that I should be using my Zwift time. Any exciting racing leagues going on? Any training plans worth the effort? Any other wisdom?

If you've done any of the Tour of Watopia stages put your time up here there's a league going. Have you joined ZwiftPower? Even the Mammoth Slug slows are welcome

Lots more good times posted yesterday on the Tout de Watopia

Updated table below. New boy Andy is setting the early pace at the top but a strong ride by @bridgy yesterday has him in his sights :boxing:. Plenty of time for things to change up and down the table though.

Hi there. As TheBoxers mentioned above, we are running a league here based on the Tour de Watopia that is currently ongoing in Zwift (latest table posted above). Stage 2 is happening this week but there are also opportunities to do missed stages. If you fancy joining our league, just make sure you join ZwiftPower and join the CycleChat team on there (so we can pick up your times). If you are already a member of a different team, just let us know your ZwiftPower name and post your times on here.

Regarding training for your Yorkshire Dales sportive, any cycling is going to be good for you but you probably want to be doing longer steady pace rides to build for it. Interval training on the turbo can be good, and you may want to have a look at the available Fondo and Grand Fondo training plans on Zwift which are essentially a series of interval workouts but should have a greater focus on endurance. If you do do one of these plans but supplement it with a weekly race in Zwift and outdoors riding, you'll probably want to swap some of the interval sessions with these rides so that you don't overdo it.

Good luck!

@LoneRider90 :welcome: This is a friendly forum with banter, but you may want to know some of the 'house rules' up front :

  1. Every ride is a race, even when it's not, and we take pleasure in beating people even if they didn't know they were racing against us
  2. If you do badly in a race, or don't feel you are going to hit your best in an upcoming race, then we welcome excuses
  3. Re point 2, all excuses will be judged by @TurboTommy . Unless you're dead, and come on here to confirm it, he is likely to rate your excuse lowly. @bobinski wrote the Big Book of Excuses - you will be doing well to come up with an excuse that Bob hasn't already used
  4. @bobinski has a bad knee. Well, he had a bad knee and had an operation to fix it, which was successful, but he'll still let us know frequently about 'twinges'
  5. @berty bassett has a propensity to crash out in the real world, but however badly he's injured he'll not come up with excuses.
  6. Some people on here are losing weight. They like to talk about it. Humour them as it makes them feel good, however boring they get
  7. @peterob controls the league spreadsheet .... best be nice to him at all times
  8. Befriend @bridgy (Paul Bridgman) on Zwift companion app - Paul organises meetup races (when we're not doing the ToW rides) - we try to organise these at 7pm (UK time) on Thursdays
  9. Some of the group meet up during the year for real life riding. This is usually organised in this thread (https://www.cyclechat.net/threads/turbo-club-meet-ups-events.224176/) Coming up there is a Double Devils ride in Wales and the Tour of Cambridgeshire. I'm sure as the year goes on other rides will be organised. Best not tell your partner though that you are planning to meet strange men, dressed in tight lycra, that you befriended on the internet
  10. We do this for fun (honest!
