Ah, right - I didn't know that! So the new segment won't help then, that's annoying. Thanks for letting us know though
So the problem is that the Strava segment starts and stops at sprint finish line, whilst our meet-up ride on the same route (in theory) started 1.6 miles before this point, and ended about a mile before it - meaning none of us kept pushing to the end of the segment, and some of us even stopped before it. There's no pre-existing segements that caught the full ride for all of us, and on the basis strava won't backdate a new virtual segment I don't think there's any reliable way of getting all our times. We may have to write that one off as an enjoyable race but one that we can't include in the league.

We've had similar issues before with the start/finish points of the ride not exactly matching theofficial strava segment, but got away with it because of other pre-existing strava segments we could use.

Only thing to do going forward is a bit more course research beforehand and maybe creation of a bespoke segment if necessary - in advance of the race.

We can at least do this course again and hopefully the segment I created today should work

I created a segment after my ride once and it worked.

I think it will work Paul. It takes Strava a little while to update the data. I was the only rider on day 1. but a few days later there were 3 riders from earlier dates, so hopefully it will be the same

Now that the segment has been created, you can get round this by everyone deleting their activity from Strava, then re-uploading it from the FIT file saved on their PC. It will then match the segment this time - yes you’ll lose any kudoses from the original ride, but I’m sure people will be willing to give those out a second time!

Could be worth someone deleting their ride from last night in Strava, then reloading it from the FIT file - this 'may' use the segment as it will see the new FIT file as a new ride. I'm hypothesizing and it sounds logical .... but we'll only know from testing I guess

Cross-post - you beat me to it!

Yes, that would work. I’ve done it before to match an old segment myself.

Let us know when you've done it....

Ive done it. It has completely screwed the elevation gain- some 9000ft climbed:wacko:. Still no segment, unless I didn't even complete your newly created one:ohmy:

There's something seriously wrong with the new ride you've uploaded - there's only a handful of segments it has picked up

I can understand why Strava do this for Virtual Rides compared to real-life ones, but it can be a bit annoying when a new course is released on Zwift, like now with Tempus Fugit.

Your first instinct is to ride it as soon as possible, because it's new, but the first ride you do there'll only be about 3-4 segments. By the time you re-ride it a few days later, it'll be more like 10 segments, but of course only a few you will see PRs for. Within a month, somewhere like 30+ segments will be there, yet your first ride will still only show up those initial 3-4 segments unless you re-upload it.

At that point you start thinking whether it would have been better to hold off riding the new course for a few days to give people a chance to create the segments first - of course, assuming that things like that matter to you. Normally it wouldn't for me, but when Alpe du Zwift came out, it did mean my first rides really only had the segments for the entire course created and not any of the ones for the individual bends yet, so it was then a lot harder to compare my original effort to my later ones by breaking down the sectors one by one.

Check whether it uploaded it as "Ride" or "Virtual Ride". I had that once before and found that it had given me the elevation of the actual real-life island on the map, not of Watopia and so the flat course I'd ridden, Strava thought was actually over a mountain range! Editing and choosing VR didn't change the elevation for some reason, but deleting it and re-uploading (AGAIN!) gave me the chance to fix it.

Good point - it is showing as a real ride not a "virtual ride" @CXRAndy so maybe worth changing it to see if this helps at all?
