What race are you thinking of tonight?

Lee is trying to sell me the RGT dream. You fancy that?

Zwift Classics - London Int'l 5 Laps, and as bloody expected after my performance last week autocat has put me in bloody C4!!!! :cursing::cursing::cursing::cursing:

What's more infuriating is that all 5 of those that finished ahead of me are still in C5!! How the foxtrot does that work?!

Edit: Mr Angry email sent to Race Control :laugh::laugh:

Don’t worry, by 2030 zwift will have created an algorithm that will allow everyone to win every race

:laugh::laugh: Don't wanna win, I know I don't have the power to contest at the pointy end especially on flat sprinty courses, it's the "Level Playing Field" that I would appreciate ... Like most C Cat Riders

To be fair ‘winning’ on zwift is being just the right side of their cat boundaries. So the guy at the front of the cat boundary is a winner, and the guy at the bottom of the next cat up is rock bottom last, and it’s all based on numbers they’ve pulled out of the air 🤷‍♂️. None of it’s level if you look at it like that I don’t think. All nonesense designed to stroke as many middle aged egos as possible! 😅

Maybe the new system eventually improves that or maybe they never get it running right. But I think there’s a lot of angry people complaining on Facebook, and the guys doing the work stay patient and keep saying it’s a work in progress.

Its a conundrum innit. Even IRL racing is sort of like that. You can be right at the top of Cat 4 say, but then get hammered in a 1,2,3 race when you get promoted. It only really "works" at the elite end of things.

This is one reason why I enjoy the IRL Masters racing. There is a category system that can't be manipulated (age) and then it is a question of who is the "best". It can lead to some wide variation in ability though which I guess is the downside, but by my category (aka old b'stard) it is mainly guys who have been racing much of their life.

It my preference too martin. Probably why I miss the old chaingang leagues bridgy organised so much. The person who came 10th was 10th. Not 1st in some sub category. (That person was often me!)

I think a point system is preferable to W/kg too. But how to set that on zwift is well above my capacity. Online racing is riddled with other issues that skewer races far worse though I think personally.

But honestly I think cat boundaries are borderline irrelevant when weight doping is so prevalent. I know doping is an issue even in amateur real world racing. But I’d punt the proportion of people doping on zwift is way higher. So the idea of a level playing field… well, it’s probably not worth getting wound up over

If there's going to be a Cat system on Zwift I'd like to see it based predominantly on results rather than w/kg. So if you accumulate enough top 5 (or top % of the field, subject to a minimum number of riders taking part), you get moved up a category. Or something like that - it would take a cleverer person than me to work out all the details but there must be a way to do it.

That would stop the "sandbagging" in lower categories and also avoid the kind of situation Lee found which was the opposite of sandbagging - i.e he was finishing in similar positions to me and Tommy in races but got upgraded because he fell the wrong side of the w/kg boundaries due to his light weight.

I definitely won't be holding my breath waiting for Zwift to "fix" racing though, as it's clearly not a priority of theirs unfortunately

RGT? What time is that or is that another platform?
It's another platform. I've done a couple of races on it and they were fun. I think Lee's doing a race at 7pm and if I've found the right one there's already around 50 people signed up for it (which is way beetter than most Zwift races currently!). You can join in a race with a free subscription so just need to download the phone app and the free app on your PC or Apple TV and create an account. Tommy are still deciding what to do later but that's one of the options if we can't find a Zwift race we like the look of

Ah I see :okay: I'll probably give it a miss tonight as I'm snowed under so won't have time to get everything set up. Will keep an eye out for one to do in the future though and give it a go.
