@Mrfitzroy took a third place for CC #68 last season on the NYC KOM course.
@BurningLegs also took a 3rd place for #68 on the New York Everything Bagel course back in the very first season. He originally crossed the line in 6th, but the top 3 were all DQ'd; one for weight doping, the other two for putting out power that was in excess of the guys who won the A category!

Could I have an unrelated question: What are you guys eating during a long session? I'm a big fan of gummy snakes - would that be good 'fuel'? Please say 'yes' ^_^ Or maybe something that melts? Chocolate?
Nothing at all if ride is 2 hours or less. If I'm planning a longer slower ride I might have a banana to hand, or a nut bar.

If outside, pretty much the same, although I'll add hard boiled sweets to into the mix as I can suck on these as I pootle along.

Same as Whorty really. I rarely do more than an hour and a half max on the turbo, and so usually won't eat anything while riding (just make sure well fuelled beforehand). I do keep an energy gel handy and occasionally have one during a long race if really needed - only because it's the only energy food I can easily consume whilst breathing heavily. I'm sure any sweets or gummy snakes would do just as good a job, other than the fact I'd probably choke trying to eat them!

General opinion is that once reasonably fit, you could ride at high intensity for 1-1.5hrs. Taking carbs during an event, you wont see physical benefits for around 20 mins after consumption. So as Paul suggests a gel a few minutes before the race might help against fading later on with hour plus events. The other way is do long rides to build a strong aerobic base to ward against fatigue.

If I'm racing, then a gel 5 minutes before the off, possibly preceded by a handful of Wine Gums. as most of the races are around the hour that does it for me, although I do have a bottle of SiS go electrolyte to hand.

Longer duration, then homemade energy bars, SiS beta fuel gels and drink, slices of stollen / flapjack, and, of course, the ubiquitous Wine gums
