i think my basic turbo trainer is wearing out?
got it second hand looked like it had never been used, still boxed and works fine but lately the resistance is hit and miss,
Today i was cruising at 4 w/kg at less than 130 bpm at the recommended setting giving me about 25 mph on the flat!, now on the road pre crash i could hold maybe 21 -22 ?
What trainer do you have? Is it a wheel on or direct drive type?

I look at Peleton like, Harrods, over priced for fitness snobs.

It did well in lockdown, only due to lack if availablity of standard equipment.

Now equipment is available again, folk are choosing the obvious cheaper platforms
Some folks just doesn't want to invest better equipment's, lag of money most of a time I guess. But without of doubt it's always good to hear that people try to take care of their welfare one way or another.

Is it much cheaper though?

Smart trainer - £700
Apple TV - £200
Screen - £150
Bike £400

Pretty similar to the cost of a peleton bike, and they offer a monthly payment to clear the balance which seems ever popular.

Good point. Didn't know the price but after now that I visit Peloton home page i agree, it's not any cheaper, especially if you own already computer, tablet or other devices.

Well a lot of people already have some of those things so won't need to buy all that lot.
For example I had a suitable tablet, a spare TV in the loft, an unused chromecast and a bike.

But I did buy an Elite direto (for £500) and I treated myself to a Bluetooth HRM (£60) to avoid using pANTs+. ^_^

I think Peloton appeals to the sort of person who goes to spin classes.

I can't imagine anything less enjoyable than being told what to do while riding. Totally unappealing to me - even if it was free.

Just done it. It's "rather climby"

I managed 01:40:57 (paging @IrishAl ) having taken a look at my power curve and set a target of 180W average, I managed to come in at 183W which is 4W better than previous best from 01:20:00 to 01:40:00

So I reckon most of you should be able to beat 01:40 (if you like climbing ^_^).
Noooooooo! ZP 1hr40:58

On the second lap, wheels well and truly came off.

I was shedding numbers faster than a skydiver.

Wouldnt be my thing either but never really got the culture war between the two. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

In a way it's similar to people who get angry that anyone cycles indoors

I just saw that on ZP. 1s over 55km is absolutely nothing. But I'll take it. Bored of being last

That'll be my sprint finish then. There was a guy slightly in front with 250m to go. I decided he was going to be behind me by then end. Drew level about 200m to go. I went at 150 and he did too. I pressed even harder and he had nothing left. Glad I did it now ^_^

Peloton appeals to the kind of people that like things simple. - You know, you buy one thing and it just works. Pairing several devices, fitting trainers, etc. might be straightforward for is but not everyone. There's market for both.

There is a market, but is it big enough for the big money backers. Peleton burst into the home training market, aggressive marketing, throwing litigation against anyone using the word Peleton.

They have imvested hundreds of millions of dollars in trying to swamp the market. They had early market penetration success.

Then some cockup advertising,
(Remember the one where a beautiful young athletic woman, said my husband got me a Peleton bike-inferring she was fat and ugly)

There was quite a backlash against Peleton.

Since though, they have been undercut hence why they dropped prices to entice users to stay or join from new.
