@Norry1

I think the only solution is a points based system. If people do well in races they move up. If they do badly they move down. That’s not to say the current points system works. I personally think it leans far too heavily in favour of people who race most. But an emended point system is far less open to abuse than the current system. And even if we ignore that element. The current system is often not a true reflection of the races people are best suited for.
Hypothetically speaking, in a purely points based system, what would you do with new Zwifters? I'm just thinking if you start them in Cat D you'll probably have this constant stream of new Zwifters moving through the Cats winning everything as they go, and D and C would as a result either not be much different, or possibly be worse?

Edit: I was thinking about this because I thought there's no way they'd do the alternative and make all new riders only race in Cat A until they drop down, but it does seem that is what they're doing with the new system so maybe that's the answer!

That's an interesting table!

I don't think it means much when racing in category boundaries that aren't dictated by it?

If it were an open field and Lee, Paul, Al, and Carl were all in the same event then the table would sort itself out and be representative, wouldn't it?

Not necessarily. It would if all riders rode very frequently and to their full potential........

You ever done a Cat 4 British Cycling race? That is exactly what happens

One option could be to have a "pending category" classification for riders who have not completed X races.

On Zwift, I can think of a few options for those riders that aren't available in real life but could help with the problem:
  • They could be ghosted until a category is determined (like the did for a while with the cone then ghost approach for sandbagging)?
  • Their power in other events/rides could be used to guide an initial category
  • The default results display could hide "pending category" riders from the screen for riders who are not pending

Update companion app on phone. Open up app, go to events, scroll across to say 22nd and scroll through events until you find a Future Works event for auto cat (can't recall exact name but you'll spot it)

Open event and you'll see that you can only enter certain cats
Sh!t

It's definitely flawed  It's shoved me in B :shy:

At the risk of bleating on about RGT - they start everybody right in the middle of the system - if you beat people better than you , you get points that bump you up - if you lose to people worse than you , you lose masses of points and get demoted - it does work

There is a lot to like in RGT.

@berty bassett how do you find the recent RGT changes. Didn't it move to s single app?

That would be amazing. But temper your expectations. ;)
indeed i am looking long term to be back at full strength by summer, biggest issue is currently only doing around an hour sessions as the collar bone is still not strong enough to do long rides even on the turbo so its been threahold sessions so the endurance for longer stints will be down the pan for a while
