I See them as just a tactic tool. A bit like using the lag in power to surprise another rider. I know there is a random element to the award. It made me work much harder when Alex,John deployed theirs.

Yeah I don’t want anyone to take offence. Just my opinion after all… and its not keeping me up at night! I never really think about it during a race and I’ve accepted it.

But if you have two riders. One stronger than the other. If neither get a power up in a straight up fight. Be it an up hill battle or sprint. Then the strongest wins on merit. It doesn’t matter if the stronger guy gets the power up as he’d win anyway without it. But if the weaker guy gets it he can win.

If you like that element then obviously that’s fine…. It’s ideal for zwift, because they’re a bit like the school that wants to give every kid a meddle just for turning up at sports day. But yeah, just not for me.

Don't care about power ups at all. Across the whole race their effect is marginal. If they in fact favour the weaker rider then that's good as it bridges the equipment gap between levels.

Thin margins win battles though don’t they! They often make the critical difference when there’s one or two points in a race when a pack selection is decided.

Anyone can get the best bikes if they put the time in. Power ups are a roulette spin. I guess that’s how I’d make the distinction there.

Am I right in thinking in the recent UCI World E racing championships, each banner gave every rider the same powerup to nullify the randomness?
Thus leaving the tactical side without the 'unfairness'.

My favourite was the adjust height and weight in game power-up which was really effective until the fun sponges at Zwift got rid of it.

I didn’t watch it to be honest Alex. But that does seem like a much better middle ground doesn’t it?

I mean at that level, if there’s money involved, losing a race that way must be painful.

I got 2x 10XP, then I got a magic hat which I kept all the way to the end, because I didn't trust my sprint and I was pretty sure I'd be arriving at the finish with the indestructible @straas.

For future reference, I don't possess a sprint

Yep, it looked that way. If they didn't use it before the next banner though, they kept what they had and didn't get what everyone else was getting.
