I've marked up your race report there @mjd1988 😀. Berty and four toes were putting in some massive digs there in the front group - I thought it would settle down but errr no.Alan actually put in a huge attack to bridge to the front 4 at the start, veryimpressivesilly.
I saw your avatar on the road, wondered what had happened.Dropped within the first mile despite giving it my all. Didn’t fancy doing another one hour plus solo time trial, so I started watching other riders (was recording footage anyway) and just did a Zone 2/3 ride blind for the next 35 minutes.
Did consider finishing the race, but thought that would be unfair on others who couldn’t take part today - being cursed with my non-effort time plus a further two minutes penalty.
I’ll probably skip the remaining stages as it’s not enjoyable being the weakest rider in the field by such a massive margin.
It was indeed. I thought I was a bit fatigued tonight, I couldn't get HR up for first lap. Then pop and could get over 170bpm and I was able to push a bit more on the climbThat was actually a longer, harder ride than I anticipated. Would not have been nice doing that solo.
That was a tough little loop. I tried a few digs up the hill into the village but couldn’t make them stick once hitting the gravel. Cheers guys.I've marked up your race report there @mjd1988 😀. That was a tough slog in the group so I don't blame you for pulling the plug @steverob, I've done the same when I was off the pace last year.
Some great performances all around. Was more entertaining than the average Zwift race with attacks sticking for a change and taking some work to get back. Impressive first race R.ich 👏 and I never stood a chance against MJD in the sprint for the line once you got back and I was happy to share the work to stay out in front.
Don't forget though, those mistakes will make you stronger. Trying to bridge whilst burned a lot of matches in that race, will make you stronger for the next race, so don't stop doing it ... eventually you'll make that bridge. I was the same, but kept trying and trying and now I'm a stronger rider for it.No excuses today - messed up everything there was to mess up and quite frankly annoyed with myself. Didn't warm up properly despite having the time, unnecessarily tried bridging to Alan and Carl when they were at the front group which paired with the intense start left me spent for the first climb. Barely made it up that dirt hill with the group and was looking for some rest - everything was going good until I lost the wheel on the supertuck section and had to sprint yet again. Was spent. Again. Managed maybe 2 minutes up the hill on lap 2 and realised that I won't be making it to the top with the group. Poor preparation, very poor racecraft. I'm too competitive for my own good - need to take it cool in races. Painful lesson today - but still a lesson
That said, very much enjoyed the event and looking forward to next Tuesday. Thanks for organising @bridgy - even if you couldn't join us. Congrats to all participants. @berty bassett just about taking it I see, congrats for keeping him on his toes @<Tommy>![]()
@Peter Salt and @alex_cycles - my target was to get a gap on the two of you in GC tonight. Hope you don’t mind my messaging and work to make that happen. It’s all in good humour. Not going to lie - Peter was number one target after losing to him last week!![]()
Sorry to hear that Steve but I understand, that was long ride!
Well done everyone. Not sure if anyone escaped but didn't see anyone within a few mins of us so I assume we were the front group
Well done Tommy and Lee, a class apart.
Was a fun second group (way) behind. Spent the whole race waiting for someone to declare a gravel bike and put in a big attack. As it happened Rich and Alan put in two big attacks on the hill on the last two laps. I think my sprint has gotten a bit better with my new shoes (probably just in my head).
Alan actually put in a huge attack to bridge to the front 4 at the start, very impressive.
Was fun having a bit of a tactical battle, glad we didn't just ride for a bunch sprint in the end.
Did anyone go with a bike choice that paid off?
May I suggest it should be “Tommy 4 Toes”. Leader of the notorious Sparky gang.Four toes 😂
I hope that sticks
