A small digression from the power stats... I need some help as a newbie. Once again.

As the weather gets nicer, I'm looking to ride more outside but don't really have the confidence (yet) to just get out and go where the road takes me. Is there a place on the Internet where people submit routes, others can rate them, maybe there's info on how much of it is what surface and what proportion is traffic-free? Or something along these lines? Alternatively, can someone suggest a beginner route around the Humber Bridge? Always wanted to cycle across that! ^_^

Might be worth joining one of your local cycling clubs?

Ridewithgps and kamoot are both good for plotting routes and they both also have a database of other peoples routes if the routes been made accessible to all

Try Komoot. It will suggest routes for you based on location or you can plot your own and tell it what type of road surface/activity you're doing. Works well. (I'm sure there's a few others too)

Certainly an option for local riding in a larger group at specific times. But say that I feel like going to York Moors to do some solo riding - how would I go about finding routes?

Garmin Connect and Strava route planners show popularity of certain roads. Komoot is very good at flagging up problem areas.

Generally I try to stay off A-roads where possible and stick to paved country roads. But if you're doing 30+ miles it's hard to stay off them completely. Some clubs post their common routes on their web site (ours does). So you could see if any of the clubs around your area do that.

The other useful tool for checking out specific sections is Google Streetview. I learned that one after doing a ride in the Polish countryside that ended up having a 1.5 mile section of sandy track. It was like riding on the beach. Thankfully I was on MTB but I still had to walk half of it.

I once rode from Cambridge up to Hull to visit my in-laws. My wife had taken the car up on a Friday evening and I rode up on the Saturday morning. I started just after 4am and had a stonking tailwind so it only took me about 6 hours. It was pretty hairy going over the bridge!

Don’t forget cycle.travel
Put in where you are and where you want to go and it will take you the best way
Also you can just put circular route
Don’t forget to tick paved only though
Use it to go places never been before

Aha! Thank you :okay:.

I knew going up Volcano KOM with Lee and Tommy last night was probably my best 7 minute power at 370w (it was), but it also gave me my best all time power for everything from 3m 40 secs to 11 minutes . No wonder I eventually cracked on that second climb

Full on wasn’t it! I don’t remember so many attacks on one climb. What was odd for me is that I felt more controlled on the climb than on the proceeding flat. Maybe my warm up wasn’t good enough.

Got my KoM  Took 8s off yesterday's time and 4s off the KoM.
Already got 3-4 clubmates (vultures) circling though. Doubt I'll keep it for long. (Strava is a great big public weeing contest. ^_^)

I'm looking back to see the route into Hull I did in 2018 but not having much luck. I did overnight in Hull and remember a great paved rail to trail heading north.
Edit: found it.
