I just did 623W for one minute after a 40-min Zwift Tabata workout - l’ll be looking for 700W+, hopefully for a slightly shorter duration(!), in the race.

In terms of like-for-like efforts, I think my Assioma pedals read a touch higher than the Tacx, but that’s hardly surprising, seeing as the Tacx reports the axle, rather than pedal power.

Ignore that after a bit of searching Strava , I haven't done that climb I did the parallel road West Bank so unless you do that as a warm up my Strava time is safe 😁. I presume the climb will be pretty similar as it goes up the same bank

I was thinking that I had ridden the road in question in 2007 when I did a lumpy little 1-day ride from Hebden Bridge to Coventry to visit my mum. I just looked back at my notes, however, and think it was West Bank instead. East Bank isn't obvious on the 1:50,000 OS map so I wouldn't have spotted it.

Notes on my ride said:
It wasn't long before I reached my half-way point at the village of Winster. My Etrex GPS can't store enough waypoints to do the route in one bite, so I'd split it into two halves. I switched over to route section 2 at Winster and took the opportunity to eat a choccy bar and swig down some Coke as I looked around the village. They were preparing for a village fête at the weekend. A guy was up a ladder hanging bunting across the main street. By now the sun was shining and I was feeling pretty pleased with myself. The worst hills were behind me, and from now on things could only get easier. Rest over, I set off, turned right and passed a little girl walking up a gentle hill with her mum. The child said hello to me, and her mum commented that I must be very fit. "Strange!" thought I... "Why say that? It can't be more than about 5% gradient..." But then I went round the bend and the road lurched violently upwards - argh! I grabbed a derailleur full of granny ring and toiled my lonely way up the rest of the hill.
I was quite fit that year. My ride was about 225 km, with well over 3,000 m of ascent, and I was carrying panniers and a rucksack!

I hope you two enjoy the hillclimb.

I think my Assioma pedals read a touch higher than the Tacx, but that’s hardly surprising, seeing as the Tacx reports the axle, rather than pedal power.
I am looking out for the SPD variant on eBay. I want a pair for my best bike but would prefer not to pay £400. £250-ish would be better.

My lad just had a bike fit today. Very comprehensive measure with foot, leg assessment, cleat, insoles review. Then sat on bike rig for geometry setup and saddle pressure pad analysis. He's going to get all the data points so he can decide on a new bike. He can then call back with bike details and they can cross reference the geometry to say if it will meet his personal settings.

He's leaning towards building his own bike

We had it done at Sigma sports

Went out yesterday evening to take advantage of the breeze on my local tiny hill, Chebsey Bank. When I say tiny, I mean REALLY tiny: the Strava segment comprises probably around 25s of climbing and 25s of getting up to speed and sprinting along the flat to the rather arbitrary finishing point outside the village hall. I’ve ridden it more than 100 times, most of which have been on my wife’s bike, with my boys. But I’d given it beans in the past, always falling a bit short of the KOM of 47s.

In spite of having to ease off a touch as I rounded the opening left-hander, I was still able to carry a decent amount of speed onto the 10% slope, mash the big gear, and time my effort surge as I crested the climb, getting the best possible acceleration onto the flat finale. I don’t have live Strava segments on my Wahoo so I’d have to wait till I got home to find out if it was enough!

I rode a loop around the village which brought me back to the Bank. There were some teenagers in the road with a football this time, so I was a bit hesitant in my launch, and the previous effort had sapped my legs a bit. Even without needing to glance down at the power numbers, I could tell it wasn’t going to be great - it all hinged on that first effort.

47s! Not quite enough to go outright top (that’s motivation to go out again and improve!), but still a KOM. 710W average, including 837W average for 30s - I’ll take that. The second attempt was 49s, still a second faster than my previous fastest ascent. Admittedly, there was a decent tailwind, but I’m happiest about the power figures.

I always wondered if one equalled the KOM time (and it displays you’ve got the crown on your activity) then does the other person get the dreaded “Uh oh” email, or is it simply a case of sharing the crown?

Did my first Zwift race in a month today. It was kind of a last minute decision so I didn't stream it or anything.

Held with the B pen until the second lap climb on Makuri Three Village Loop and got a reasonable workout.
I've been spending a lot of time outside. Not just riding, demolishing our shed in readiness for a new one and some woodturning as well.
But today's rain drove me back indoors. Reminds me of the rainy May in 2021 which caused me to buy my trainer.

Nice one. I have been considering doing the same thing ie getting a bike fit to inform what bike I get.

Great pics 😎

Funny…I also honed in on the socks 😂
Studying some of those photos I think the UCI would have something to say about the sock length of some of those, particulate chap in the yellow jersey 🤔 😂
Where can I get socks like that ??

First big effort on zwift for over 2 months , rode hillside hustle which goes up the grade so why not go for it . Result slowest time so far despite me feeling like I paced in correctly and didn't go to hard at the bottom , 211 watts for 18 mins about 2.9w/kg not too bad but some 20 watts down on my best ,all my riding outside is mainly z2 so I do think you lose that top end punch when you don't practice it

Hi Phil yes, it's hard getting and keeping that V02 max peaked. I'm way down on my numbers from 2 months off as well

I'm hoping to get it back with 2races a week. I was going to race today but wife booked a restaurant, so we are cycling 25 miles round trip dodging showers
