I read in a building magazine that there is a shortage of bricks and builders are having to wait weeks to get their hands on some bricks. This leads the question what is the alternative if there is not enough clay anymore to make bricks to build houses. Stone, concrete, timber and blocks could all be in short supply is there was a surge in damand so what is the answer.

Straw? Prefab metal? Prefab plastic? Control immigration properly?

The shortage is slowly reducing... just need to wait a few weeks.

Before the construction recession bricks were anything from £140/1000 but now brick factors can charge £400/1000 and bricklaying gangs can charge what they like.... that won't last forever.

Boom and Bust all over again , Haulage must cost about the same as the bricks now.
Bricklayers were making more in 2000 than 2010 so if they are making fortunes now then good for them , the hardest workers on any building site IMO.

When a building site is held to ransom, it's hard to stay impartial.

The Site Manager on the development, where I have purchased, mentioned this in our meeting last week, as a possible factor that could delay the build. Hoping that isn't the case!!
