10 speed crankset with a 9 speed chain

Will this work?

The backstory:
I want to put a 50/39/30 triple on my wifes rohloff equipped trike in order to get very low gears but also high gears. Rohloff's seem to work best with 9 speed chains but there's not many 9 speed cranksets around anymore hence the question.
btw Rohloff have told me that putting a triple in front of one of their hubs is ok by them and won't overstress the hub as long as the lowest gear is 1.9

It'll be fine. I'm personally running an eight speed crankset with ten speed chain, which sounds like it ought to be asking for trouble but it's fine.

Used that combo for years. And the opposite on my then best bike, nine speed chain on ten speed rings.

What sometimes won't work is a 9 speed chainset and a 10 speed chain, as you can get the slightly smaller chain falling between the chainrings.

Never happened to me and I had that setup running for seven years. And living in hilly Wales the front mech gets almost as much use as the rear.
