Unlikely, but you never know. After all, Japan beat South Africa; and England beat Uruguay.

not feeling the love for Ireland in this thread, other than me, should make the semi-finals, its not beyond the realms of possibility that we might actually win it...
can you imagine how pissssed off some folks would be if we did....^_^^_^^_^^_^^_^^_^

As a Leicester Tigers fan, I'm supporting our one and only World Cup participant, but will change my allegance to Ireland for you after the next game. If they are still in it.:bravo: GO ON ARGENTINA!

Argentina. The only team in the World Cup with home-grown players! 2007, France - one of their best performances, for a third place.
Here is the country by country breakdown of players:

Number of foreign-born players at Rugby World Cup by team
13: Samoa; 12: Tonga; 11: Wales, Scotland and Japan; 10: France; 6: Australia, Italy, USA; 5: Canada, Ireland, New Zealand; 4: Romania; 3: England, Fiji; 2: Namibia; 1: Georgia, South Africa, Uruguay; 0: Argentina

From here.

Paul O'Connell out of the World Cup.
This is a big blow - for him, and for the team. I'm sure we all wish any player a speedy recovery from injury...Paul O'Connell I would put in the same frame as Alun Wynn-Jones, Greg Laidlaw, BOD, Victor Matfield etc - all catalysts for getting that little bit extra from a team in the tightest of situations.
Anyway, wishing him a full and fast return to fitness...he must be gutted. Mourad Boudjellal has two injuries of note to his current crop of Galacticos.

Referees have been appointed.

World Cup quarter-finals

Saturday South Africa v Wales, Twickenham: Referee Wayne Barnes (Eng).Assistants George Clancy (Ire), JP Doyle (Eng). TMO Graham Hughes (Eng). New Zealand v France, Millennium Stadium: Referee Nigel Owens (Wal). AssistantsJaco Peyper (SA), John Lacey (Ire). TMO Shaun Veldsman (SA). Sunday Ireland v Argentina, Millennium Stadium: Referee Jérôme Garcès (Fr). Assistants Romain Poite (Fr), Chris Pollock (NZ). TMO George Ayoub (Aus). Australia v Scotland, Twickenham: Referee Craig Joubert (SA). Assistants Glen Jackson (NZ), Pascal Gauzere (Fr). TMO Ben Skeen (NZ).

Nigel Owens sped past Wayne Barnes in refereeing efficacy within the last year or so...I like Romain Poite and quite liked the way Jérôme Garcès used to handle things...I just have a suspicion that he has attained a soupcon of 'Steve Walsh' this tournament. Joubert and Peyper can 'go and do one', IMHTMO - but what do I know?
If Wales make it to HQ - Barnes. If other, then Owens, with Barnes and Poite touch judges...ALL the rest as TMOs. Why Not?

O'Brien will be missing too...
Bit harsh for the Scots players. Never noticed anything untoward during the match.
We'll just have to win it without them ;)

I reckon he'll retire completely as a player and one day he'll coach the Lions.

I have just scored an England ss white RWC 2015 jersey for less than twenty English squid.

I will wear it with pride during the forthcoming 6N and after, when the need arises. I will never wear an official England 6N shirt as I intensely dislike my body being used as a sponsor's advertising hoarding for O2.
