Cycle at least 4 times a week and not shout at motorists who have annoyed me. If I can beat last year's 6,500 miles that would be good too.

I was right about that saddle
In 2017 I did more miles and more climbing than any previous year, but I am getting slower. This year I intend to lose some serious weight and get some decent times in.

  • Metric Century-a-Month Challenge again.
  • 3,000 miles.
  • Another big Welsh mountain or two. (inc the Llanberis Pass in the Spring, and The Black Mountain with @Banjo some time).
  • At least one more climb that has been classified Cat 1 in the TdF (inc the Col du Platzerwasel in the Vosges).
  • Complete the year without succumbing to the idea of Garminising my bikes. (Long live the "Flatnav"!)
  • EDIT: Nearly forgot. Meet more Cyclechatters this year.

I want to cycle to the seaside. I live approx 50 miles from the English south-coast. I would either

(a) cycle to the coast, overnight air b&b or tent, then back the next day.
(b) There are back on the same day.

Another milestone for 2018 would be to cycle around the Isle of Wight.

Cycle to the coast was one of my goals last year. Ended up doing it twice, once to Hunstanton and once to Spurn Point (though this was done over two days)

Cycling/fitness based:

- Half century a month challenge (aiming for imperial)
- Get out more often for rides with my daughter
- 5,000+ miles over the year
- Ride the Coast to Castles route (prob over 3 days)
- Get my CX back in tip top condition and do some off-road rides
- Ride the Yorkshire Wolds cycleway (prob over 2 days)
- Walk the next section of the Cotswold Way with my wife
- Try T'ai Chi
- Start doing morning stretches and weights again

My wife and I sat down and talked 'new year goals' for the first time in our 17 year relationship and she was throwing in the odd bike one, so needless to say I was impressed!

- Beat last years annual total (5011 miles)
- More overnight trailer trips with my wife & daughters
- Ride the Waterford Greenway
- Overnight bike trip with just me & the wife
- Few nights biking trip over to England somewhere
- Log wife on Strava & help her achieve her 1000 mile total
- Ride to work more than drive to work
- Stop viewing 'Found A Bargain' thread and buying as much bike stuff

Miles: 7500 (2017 - 5056)
Climbing: 450,000 feet (2017 - 280,000)
Walk: 1,000 miles
I only started using Strava in 2017 so have no idea what I’ve done in the past. I was surprised by the 2017 figures. I retired in March and generally ride 100+ per week.

A decent European tour - haven’t been since 2014.

Tour of Cuba (no chance, currently a pipe dream)

Return to the Pennine Cycleway, Derby to Berwick, as it opened 15 years ago and I was on the official inaugural ride. Possibly then jump on the route north to Edinburgh and perhaps on to Glasgow. I should mention my wife is going to India for two weeks on March 1st and if the forecast is half decent I shall saddle up and go - could be very cold and wet though!!! :bicycle:
