Tbh, it is hard to comment on all the performance factors involved as we are not privy to the intimate details.

Maybe in years to come, with some post-career dissection, we will find out more?

Well I'm assuming it's genetics and nothing more sinister (think there's a ridiculously low lactic turnover time or something), and I don't think anybody has any training or equipment that's going to make this much difference. Remco, Vingegaard and MvdP are generational talents and they're pretty much left in the dust - other than MvdP on his preferred parcours, and even then as he said "it's close".

I agree that equipment makes very little difference at this level but maybe it's a psychological issue?

Confidence might be lower than it could be this season in the chasing pack, if so, maybe that needs addressing. Pretty demoralising just watching someone literally decide to 'go' and you cannot respond.

Cycling is as much a mind game as other sports and quite often dominance is a matter of psyche as well as physicality.

He’s not human. There will be some furrowed brows come the winter wondering htf you deal with him on form.

He is human though. ..... He got beat 3 times this year ( in races that meant something)

Amstel remco pulled him back ... MSR couldn't drop MvdP ...Roubaix couldn't drop.MvdP went over the limit

Pro cycling was sinister from the first TDF and it still is now. Just enjoy the show.

I used to think that, but not any more. In the Worlds and Euros it was really clear - Remco rode his arse off chasing, the others just couldn't contribute at that level (plus trying to shelter in Remco's wheel is like trying to keep dry in the rain by holding you hand above your head). Pog gained time on the climbs, and Remco had to slow to keep the group together, until it was clear they were more of a hindrance than a help.

Amstel, where Remco and Skjelmose pulled him back in quite a strong headwind and then the three sprinted with Skjelmose winning, Remco did the lions share as well, but Skjelmose was pretty much on the limit and got no recovery when Remco went to the front. And even then, when they caught him they couldn't drop him and had to go to the line.

Most riders in any chase will be a dead weight because they'll slow the chase on climbs and kill it off, or get dropped so they're no help anyway.

I hate that expression.... "Doing the same thing over and over expecting a different outcome "

It's literally the definition of training and practice and it does work producing quantified different outcomes
