Nervous anticipation best describes the mood in the camp at this point. We travel down to the South-West early tomorrow morning and will start the ride on Sunday.

Our support van was delivered yesterday, all accommodation is booked and paid for and I've shed 19lbs and am bang on my target weight as of this morning

12 days of cycling beckons!!! Wish us luck but most of all wish us a strong following wind! Our progress can be followed here.. http://citylinklejog.weebly.com/

All the very best - are you able to estimate the cost for us - it's something a couple of friends have been contemplating for some time.

Hi John,

I've co-organised the ride and my co-organiser is an accountant so we've got a pretty good handle on the costs! We've tried to be sensible on costs but equally we're not doing it on a shoestring either

We're doing it supported so have a van following us carrying our stuff. That was donated by the leasing company we deal with so that I can't tell you how much. As there are six of us (5 riding) we've been able to get a 'crew van' which will seat 6 people. This has saved us the cost of independent travel to LE and back from JoG which would have been quite costly. Fuel for the van we estimate will be about £500.

Our accommodation is in guest houses, B&Bs and small hotels. We're sharing twin rooms which has averaged out at £28 per night per person including breakfast. It would have been slightly cheaper but we're paying the accommodation cost of our support driver between the riders so that cost is six people's divided into five.

Other than that it's just food and drink which we estimate will be up to £30 per day. Added onto that is all the money we've spent at Wiggle and other online bike stores buying stuff that perhaps wasn't essential but hey, it's a good excuse to buy some cycling stuff!! We have also all paid out about £60 for two bespoke cycling jerseys so at least we'll look co-ordinated when we get our pics taken at the start and finish! They weren't strictly necessary but are a nice to have.

So, if you add that all up the fuel, food and accommodation is about £900 each for a 12 day trip. If you add the cost of the jerseys and other bits and pieces I've bought I'd say it's closer to £1,100. I wouldn't underestimate how much the crew van has saved us either - probably another £200 on top.

I'm sure LEJoG can be done a lot cheaper than we're doing it!!! Then again it's a two week holiday and where can you get a two week holiday, all-inclusive with such an achievement built in for £900?

All the very best to you and your team Ian. I am jealous of you all as I know what a great time you are going to have. Doing Lejog in April was one of the best things I have ever done, you will love it (even when your arse is sore and your legs feel like they weigh 50kg each)!!

Have fun and keep us updated!

3 days and 210 miles in. Tonight is the first night I've been conscious enough to post!! Cornwall - hell. Devon - really hell. Going straight across Dartmoor - what the f*** was I thinking??!! That was properly difficult!

The pain is starting to become fun though - I think everyone should do it! Another 3500 feet of climb tomorrow. Bring it on. Night :hello:

Me and Norry1 did the same epic journey in April, (looks like day 2 was the same route) and we found the same, Cornwall was really tough but day 2 straight over Dartmoor was incredibly tough, by far the hardest day. We also did it unsupported which made matters really really hard. It does get better, much much better. For me it was a life changing experience. Good luck, Im still missing the trip!
