We the inevitable happened.

The Specialised All Condition Elites that came with my bike punctured after a week. I knew it would happen. No confidence in those pieces of s**t what so ever.

So time to splash out!

Top of the list are Panaracer Ribmo's. I have them on my hybrid - not one puncture in 1000 miles since fitting them.

But I am always open to new ideas and suggestions. So please, if anyone can suggest anything that can resit the road debris on South East london streets please let me know - my budget is no more than 35 quid per tyre.

Also will be going with new tubes too. Continentals never seem to fail me.

Opinions please lovely people.

I have had the Armadillo Elites (23's) on my commute bike for over a year now (they have done over 5000 miles) and in that time only 1 puncture (Tuesday funnily enough) and like you I commute through SE London's finest pot holed streets in all weathers. (35 mile round trip).

Excellent commuting tyres imo.

Currently using Bontrager Racelite Hardcase. Very puncture resistant and durable.

Intend to try the Ribmos when they wear out just out of curiosity.

I have the ribmos on my hybrid in 700x35C. Max presure is 90psi according to Panaracer, but I ran them at 100 and not hand a single puncture in 1000 miles. I have had to remove bits of flint and glass that have got stuck in the tyres - but no where near penetrated the tyres to the tube.

They are good.

But I have concerns with how that will perform in 23 size.

Its proving to be a bit of a headache making a choice!

Bonty Hrdcases here, very impressed with their durability, only 1 big flint has caused a deflation. Can be had for £13 each, so bargain.

I used GP4000s for a while. I'd rate them highly in the dry but found them to be quite skittish in the wet. I know we all try to avoid manhole covers etc but sometimes it can't be helped. Some tyres handle them well so long as you don't do anything silly but I found with the GP4000s, there was always a twitch from whichever tyre ran over one.

Thanks Martin, how did the 4000s's stand up to road debris? Ive been offered a very good deal on a new pair and need to snap em up asap if they cope well!

They were actually ok at handling the crud you find on the road. I think I got a couple of punctures in about 2,000 miles of commuting, it was just the twitchiness that put me off them.

I keep my conti4000s for my best bike but they have been good wearing for me, iirc they've only had 1 pture in about 2500miles and that was when some idiot sabotaged the Etape Caledonia with carpet tacks. On my training bike I use base wired conti grand prix's and they've been more than good the current rear (after 2530miles on the front of one bike, 4886miles on the front of another and 2460miles on the rear has only had 1 p'ture); caveat thats for me.
