Chance'd be a fine thing. This time last year I was going to sign up for the 50k a month, but failed before I even started by not getting a ride in January. Every single time I had opportunity, the weather was crap, or someone needed me to do something else last minute, or just couldn't motivate myself. Looking at my records I only managed 4 rides the whole year that weren't commutes or nipping to the shops! A grand total of 413 miles, only 115 of which were just going for a ride. 😢

So challenge is, go for more rides.

I am swithering over which challenge to do...
My advice would be go for the longest one you can in January as you can always fall back into a lower distance challenge if you fail to get a longer ride in that month but a ride long enough for the lower challenge. If the weather is terrible in Jan or you don't like riding in winter the lunacy challenges are for you as you don't need to do a ride every month

The 2026 Imperial Century a Month Challenge thread is on the forum now. The 20th year.
We had 5 entrants for 2025 and 5 finishers.
It would be great if we can get more riders.
Sign up folks, it's only one ride a month :okay:

I've never done an imperial century, and only ne metric century, so I don't think I'm signing up for either of those.

Prior to this year, and of the ".. a month" challenges would have been an issue for me, due to lack of free weekends in May & June (Morris dancing and Sealed Knot).

But now my "weekends" extend into Monday & Tuesday, those might be more feasible. I think I might try the metric 50 a month (as well as the lunacy).

Lefty tighty. Get it righty.
Metric century a month for me again. I've become alarmingly slow of late and it's getting to be as much of a challenge as imperial ones used to be.

I'll do the lunacy climbing too, with a target of 1300m. We'll see how that goes.

Advance notice to everyone that Week 1 of the 2026 edition of the ‘3 x 30min rides x 52 weeks’ challenge will start on Monday 29th December – and will run through until Sunday 4th January.

If you do three outdoor rides of over 30 minutes on at least two separate days in Week 1 then please post the details of your rides in Week 1 of the challenge. Photos are particularly welcome.

It would be REALLY nice if more people entered this challenge!

The thread for the 2026 challenge is here:

https://www.cyclechat.net/threads/three-30-minute-rides-each-week-of-the-year-2026-challenge.309247/

Please read the rules of the challenge – and sign-up for it. If you have any queries, please post them in the new challenge thread.

Yes – Week 1 will be a chilly week for cycling – but that’s what makes it a challenge

I'm looking at several challenges for 26. Already signed up for 20 mile and full marathon runs before June. Will be doing several Gravelton events plus several multi day bikepacking and touring routes. Hopefully hit 4k for years total if not more. Sadly no Dirty Reiver for 26 as its to close to the 2 running events.
