I would imagine a pre-requisite of a serious cyclist would be that they don't give a sh*t about 'classifications' of cyclists and just get on with the cycling?

Yep, I'd go along with that.

And, in all likelihood, spend negligible time on forums talking about it! So do I conclude that the really serious cyclists have the lowest post count?

I suggested this some time ago (flippantly of course) but there should be a posts per mile count displayed!

I've got two bikes but they're not in the same town. I must do something about that come to think of it.

I haven't a clue how that effects my seriousness rating.

When we went camping a family pitched up just along from us with four bikes on the roof of the car. The bikes stayed on the roof and we never saw them ride at all.

So are there CCers who just drive around with bikes strapped to their cars?
I've driven bikes up to Skye and then back again without them leaving the carrier (mind you, the weather was c**p). Taking the bikes gives you the option if you feel like it (I guess I'm not a serious cyclist, then, as I also like walking, kayaking etc)

I recently took a brommie to Wales with me, but never got a chance to nip out for a ride.
I wanted the bike there just in case.

I don't think there are many who don't own a bike. We shouldn't really be classifying people on a scale of bikerness.

I do wonder though why some regulars on here show next to no interest in cycling. What keeps them coming back?

My theory is that it's envy. They want to share our freedom.

I do wonder though why some regulars on here who claim to be die hard cyclists show so much interest in cars and their drivers

My theory is that it's envy. They want to drive the cars they see on the road, but their missus won't let them buy one.

I did the same on a trip to Arran. Wish I'd had covers, it took me ages to clean the rust off, that's how much it rained.

Well, I guess its a theory. I'm not sure that it'd stand up to close scrutiny, and I'm certain many would dismiss it out of hand, but it's yours and I'm sure the result of some considerable thought.

I think there's a clue in your post, seeing as cyclists tend to die hard when some gormless twunt behind a wheel does something stupid.

Your defensiveness blinds you to the fact that we're mostly drivers. And that owning a 4x4 so that one can pull a couple of horses is not at the top of the world's envy list.

Now if it were donkeys...

... you could get the donkeys to pull the horse cart! Problem solved!

I was sat on a very busy TL contrilled roundabout on my way in to work this morning when a chap on a MTB blased past me on the inside straight through the red light and straight in front of the traffic which was coming around it (who had to jump on their brakes to avoid running him over)

There are plenty of gormless twunts in cars, but there doesn't seem to be any shortage of the same on cycles either...
