They're are a lot of things I dont really need but its quite a handy device.

I never discuss anything more exciting than what's for tea in front of Alexa. In any case, compared to a smartphone the privacy concerns are minor indeed.

Alexa doesn't like me much, she refuses to listen to me -or when she does she then tells me she can't understand my question.
If i swear at her she tells me it's not nice though!
We have it linked to our lights, but it's actually quicker to get up and switch them on/off yourself than having a ten minute argument with the stupid thing.
Oh, and her jokes are crap.

Seriously, because its in the front room the most exciting thing it'll hear is "fancy a cup of tea love?", or "Corrie is on in five minutes." Not the sort of thing to get worried about.

Conversely, peoples smartphone follow them absolutely everywhere, from the loo, meetings, trysts with lovers, work, shopping, socialising, plotting crimes, and having one of those with you 24/7 really is something to be concerned about...

On top of that, Smartphone offer multiple opportunities for further invasion of privacy, such as real time tracking, cookies, lord knows what else. I can't believe that anyone that has something as leaky as a smartphone with them all the time would be remotely concerned about Alexa.

The company recently expanded the Echo family with two new models, one with a built-in screen, the other - still in test phase - designed to make recommendations about what you should wear based on owners modelling two outfits in front of its cameras.

For those with a current Alexa, you can test this by asking "Alexa - does my bum look big in this?"

In the news today, the Alexa "skills" now number in the hundreds thousands, and are increasing 37 times faster than the Google home equivalents skills.

This time next week it'll be Skynet.
