The sr71 Blackbird was designed with some gaps so that when it was at Mach 3, it was perfectly sealed. It's why most pictures of them on the ground feature a big puddle underneath!!
 
Mine lives outside mostly, made the white tape go a bit yellow but no other ill effects

You keep your bike outside? No structure at all above/around it?

I think it expanded about 10 to 12 inches. It seems strange that it should show up in that one place!

Air rushing past tends to warm stuff up, though. Apparently, you could fry eggs on Concorde's wings.




I think the health and safety mob would have something to say if you attempted that.

Bet it wouldn’t have stopped them scoffing the eggs though.
