Amsterdam moped riders

Went for a quick visit over Xmas and good lord!. There's been an explosion of them shooting around the cycle lanes!. Are the city fathers going to clamp down on this soon?. I used to think that the Dam was the only city in the world where you stand more of a chance of being hit by a bike. I'd revise that to moped/scooter.

I don't know about Holland, but it's perfectly legal for mopeds to use the cycle lanes here in Germany. It is a bloomin menace at times, especially when they come flying around corners.

I reckon they are still outnumbered by bikes by about 1000 to 1.

I was over there in October visiting a supplier, they told us there was talk of banning the mopeds from the cycle lanes.

One thing that really annoyed me about them was their sudden U-turns in cycle lanes. Almost got hit twice and saw numerous near misses with cyclists.

It's bonkers in Amsterdam isn't it? We went there with the kids towards the end of last year and despite taking a lovely canal tour, visiting the Ann Frank museum and all the rest, everyone's prevailing memory seems to be of spending a day trapped in a real-life version of Crossy Road! Saw several moped near misses and a cyclist coming to blows with a SUV driver. Full on stuff. I don't know how the smokers manage to get home in one piece!

Perhaps the calming influence of the coffee shops was underestimated when tighter restrictions were being applied to their operations?
