Went swimming in the Bay of Biscay in my youth quite far out from the shore. Felt something underneath me and swam back. Apparently it's a common sensation in deep water. Don't think I've been in open water since. Jaws didn't bother me and I enjoy all of the shark documentaries. Just won't go in open water and check before diving into swimming poolsSharkeyblokes OK though.

Mental, probably but unless sharks learn to walk or fly or ride bikes I'm safe. You however need to watch out for honey badgers and small monkeys. Not to mention honey badgers with small evil monkeys on their backs spitting moths.Wigsie said:You and potsy are mental.. sharks are wonderful creatures! have been in close proximity to many and much prefer it to being near a moth or a small (evil bastard) monkey!
Morts fear of Honey badgers is sound too though along with wolverines (not Hugh Jackman with sideburns though).

Wow this shiraz is good, even if it is Australian.

Good man. Wish I'd been closer to them than next to an aquarium... never saw one in all the years I did Scuba Diving.Wigsie said:You and potsy are mental.. sharks are wonderful creatures! have been in close proximity to many and much prefer it to being near a moth or a small (evil bastard) monkey!

Of over 400 species there are only a handful that are actually of any threat to man... however, even with this in mind I understand the fear to a degree... whilst swimming/snorkelling in the Dominican Republic many moons ago I was happily finning away over the reef (using flippers to the uninformed) and then went over some form of drop-off into the deep blue yonder... the view beneath me disappeared to inky black nothingness, and the water went noticeably cooler... I promptly nearly sh*t myself and have never swum so fast back to the comfort of the reef in my life with visions of all kinds of nastiness appearing from the depths to devour me... sharks included.
