I disagree that nobody does. I purchased my first Macbook at Heathrow on the way back home from said 10 years ago holiday as it was the cheapest I'd seen and cheaper than high street prices in the UK.Nobody buys fairy liquid because of an advert. What they do however, is become more likely to notice it on a supermarket shelf/website amongst its competitors. And the consumer will quite often think the 'bigger' brands that cost a bit more are likely to be better than the budget alternatives.
Some won't be swayed by the latter (but many will) but most are affected by the former.
