I have to confess to making charcoal.

But it's for horticultural purposes - honest.

Those bamboo bicycles do look intriguing though, how long has the oldest one in service been going, does anyone know??

I like the idea of growing my own bike

The Bamboo Cycle Co was the first company to commercially make a Bamboo bike in 1894. There are a few surviving examples from this company, of which at least one is still being ridden. This website has some good information, as well as photos of the catalogues and a surviving bike in daily use.
