I would quite happily spend the rest of my cycling days as a TEC then listen to that foul, talentless, screeching fanny.

Cilla Black's high notes, headache inducing and possibly damaging to those under 18. Has to be Dusty followed by Dionne. When Cilla sings softly it's not bad but when she lets rip...eek.

very true... Alfie, another Bacharch & David classic starts out beautifully but crikey that ending!

More camp than a week at Butlins.

This thread has me confused because:
a) I quite fancy the younger Cilla, and she undoubtedly had a teriffic voice, but like, say, Tom Jones or Lulu, both also great singers, she was mainstream rather than hip
b) If Dusty Springfield was still alive, I would volunteer to strew rose petals where'er she walked.
c) Dionne Warwick too has a fantastic voice, and some of her stuff is divine, but here she loses out to both Cilla and Dusty.
d) I should be working.

Dusty. She's got the range, the inflection, the understated power, a whole lot more subtlety going on. The craven coarse screeching of Cilla as she mangles your eardrums or Dusty. Cilla's jazz to Dusty's blues, no contest.
