Are we being forced to go electric?

So maybe we can agree that cars are large machines that take a lot of energy to produce and power?

ICE vehicle use produces pollution where they are used and that has health implications for people in those areas.
EV vehicle use may produce pollution where their energy is generated.

If so can we also agree that fewer car journeys would be a good thing?

But everyone's lifestyle dictates that it's not possible right now ...

And the majority of EV's being purchased by multi nationals as company cars, that seems to kept quiet ....

It isn't really of any great relevance to any argument about whether we are being forced to go EV, or about the viability of them. And TBH, is true of many models of ICE vehicles as well. Most of the cars I have bought in the last 20 years have been ex-fleet vehicles.

Was that any different for ICE a few years ago? Big companies have always bought/leased large fleets of vehicles

Yes Andy, but now it's to promote their false green strategies ....
We need to stop greenwashing electricity. It's not clean, it's not renewable, it's not reliable.
I work in the rail industry where "de-carbonisation" is being shouted from the rooftops ... and every marketing department. .."Electric Trains For a Green Future" ... but they all start looking at their feet, shuffling around, when the awkward squad start asking where the electricity is coming from ....

Multi nationals ? The six people I know with EVs have all bought theirs privately.

I don't know anyone who's got one through some mysterious multi national...

Where did you get your figures?

In the UK, around 50% of electricity is now produced from renewables, and growing all the time. Admittedly that does include biomass, which isn't much more "clean" than fossil fuels. But around 30% currently comes from wind

Many of the EVs around here have TFL taxi stickers in the window (MGs, Kias, Hyundais, Teslas) plus many hybrids (Prius, Auris etc)

Supermarkets, Amazon account for many commercial vehicles, so those are multi-national leased/owned, plus many buses in London are being replaced with electric ones. Also, electric black cabs

When it's blowing .... DRAX now produces more emissions burning the forests of South Carolina than it did burning coal ...

Not that high in the UK.

It's around 30% for renewable sources
