Sorry you think that way User13710. I don't make any money off the blog. I thought it was a funny/interesting discussion and people might like the post. I would like to chat to cyclists who may be interested in the Deca Ironman stuff, just because it is what I like doing and maybe one day I can do it professionally. I work in scientific conferences so the blog can only get me in trouble in work!

OK, apologies SGcyclist. It's just that we do get people spamming on here in the way I described. Welcome to the forum. The 'real/serious cyclist' schtick and the velominati stuff is still boring though, sorry.

Completely understand, no problem. As I am writing the blog because it's an interesting 'hobby' and I would love to work in it one day......one day.....just can't write that in case work sees it! No worries about velominati etc, some people like it some people don't. Like marmite!

Yes, we know who the serious cyclists are: they take "the rules" seriously.

Made most of those, but you've missed a few. These probably fit in to 'crazy loon' category.

1. Weather, What's that ? You actually enjoy riding in torrential rain. You yearn for 1 foot snow drifts to cycle to work in, just because.

2. Operations - You pester the surgeon about how long you will need to be off the bike, then pester some more once you come round (done this three times now). You also shchedule operations for the Autumn - can't be losing time when the weather is 'better' (oh yes I've done this twice too).

Bikes are worth more than the car ! The garage is for bikes, not cars, and is more secure than Fort Knox.

Does anyone else suspect this is just a blatant way of getting more hits on his blog? This rubbish about 'real cyclists' has been done to death and it's very boring.
Maybe, but the OP might not have been part of those conversations.

Zero out of 20; and proud not to be serious (at anything!).

I did come dangerously close to answering "yes" to the first half of Q.7, but mine are in the spare bedroom so that doesn't count....
Likewise, but only because all my riding is currently done there..

Serious, not chance

Didn't even read it, how can cyclist questions be posed in the first place by triathletes.

I'm not a serious cyclist. My cheapest ride was the expensive side of £1600 and the other two nearly double that. BUT...

I smile almost all of the time that I'm riding!

Lol, I did do the second longest solo, unsupported bike race in the world - Transcontinental Bike Race from London to Istanbul (although got food poisoning on last day in NE Greece) in August. Works out to about 450km a day and that is only the average time......was going to do World Bike Race but planning for 2015 now.....

It's a bit more complicated than that...
I seem to remember suggesting in a previous iteration of this debate that a serious cyclist was someone who used their bike for transport - everyone else was just a hobbyists. I don't think the previous OP (another intense racer IIRC) was too impressed.
