Banking money question

I'm sure either Halifax or your current bank (if that's not Halifax) will open or reopen an account for you over the course of a phone call. You'll need to be able to pass their identity checks (which aren't usually that onerous).

I'd doubt they would keep an account "active" with no statements and no card. There's a tiny risk that someone has hijacked that account, otherwise I'd bet it was closed. But a phone call will confirm.

This doesn't really address your question so please don't be offended but............having just had several meetings with my bank.....
Does it have to be Halifax ?
If so why not just go to the local branch and a) open another account or b) just ask them to check.
A lot will depend on when/how quickly you will need access to it.
Interest is naff for most accounts. Even 12 month/2 year bonds only give 1-1.5% interest and it is locked away for that length.
5 year investment seems to be the only way of getting decent returns.
Feel free to ignore this

Go to the local branch, or at least call a branch (not the central number) so if they need to re-identify you they can arrange an appointment in which this can take place, when I've dealt with them recently, I had to call the branch to book an appointment. Halifax, I believe, print the sort code and account numbers on the cards, so you can provide those details over the phone to check the account still exists.

Halifax will ask a range of questions, not just name and address. Try to have more information to hand than you would expect, they may, for example, ask personal details that would be known by you, but less easily found by a potential fraudster.

Don't forget to make sure you have a way to get the money out the account, once it's been paid in. So request a new card once you know the account is open.

Good luck with the new bike...

I don't want it to go into our joint account as i think Mrs Accy will take more than the 50% i promised her and to be honest i wish i hadn't promised it to her.
I'm going to spend half my share on a new bike and bike stuff. The other half,i'll keep it for a rainy day.
