You got passed by an ebike......![]()
I have just signed up to Strava. Some of those guys must be using fast e-bikes. I'm 750th out of 1200 on part of my ride to work (and that's my fast bit).

Best place to whip an E-bike is on a steep uphill, the batteries and motor just aren't up to the job of hauling all that gubbins, plus a rider. And yes, I am speaking from experience, there's one I sometimes see on my commute, and woe betide them if I slot in behind from a side road just before the road goes skywards.![]()
I heard someone on Radio 5 last month going about able people using mobility scooters through sheer laziness as it meant they could ride them to the supermarket and then ride them round the supermarket and then home with shopping on board, no legislation on this at all, it was part of a general lifestyle/coronary tip I think.
I've moved now, but one of my former neighbours used to hop in the car to fetch the paper, milk and cigarettes. It was about a ten minute walk to the local shop, but even that is seemingly beyond some people. Part of the problem is that the estate I used to live on was clearly constructed around car use, but laziness is undoubtedly also a big factor. I've also chatted to a taxi driver who told me that it's not at all uncommon to get very short fares to a cash point, off-licence, and home again. We are getting as lazy as the US. This week in my new offices has been an eye opener about folk's reliance on cars. All car park passes get revoked at the end of September, so some folk are getting into a panic about a 4/5 mile commute across a city without a car. I have suggested a bike.... got looked upon like I was an alien !!

No, this was in the UK. Where I used to live I hardly ever saw people walking, as I said, mostly laziness, but also poor planning when the estate was designed and built.I assume you were in the US ?
I was in Florida on holiday in Kissimee in the early 90's with my family. Me and my dad fancied a couple of pints. We'd spotted a 'bar' on the highway a few minutes drive away, so we walked. The locals thought we were nuts - it was about 30 minutes walk though ! Time to work up a thirst.
