Well i had quite an eventful ride at the weekend, was going to go out on the road but it was a bit icy so decided to play safe and get the cx bike out and have a ride up the cycle track, well 5 miles later as i tried to dodge a walker on the track i ended going over the handlebars and landed flush on my head lol, after the initial pain and shock i then rode 5 miles home and told the missus to take me to hospital because i was having trouble breathing thinking i had broken some ribs, well 8 hours later i was told i had 2 fractures in my neck, luckily for me ( if you can call a broken neck lucky ) the breaks were stable so i will not need an operation but will need to wear a collar for a few months while it heals so it looks like that i will be off the bike for a while.
It was probably doing about 18mph so it just goes to show you don't have to be going that fast to have a major accident everything that could go wrong unfortunately did .
So Be careful out there coz you never know whats round the corner.

Yikes, talk about a lucky escape. Well, not the broken bones but the fact that it wasn't the spine. Hope you mend quickly and you got a human neck collar and not the type that vets use...

Get well soon @skinnydog1973 , that was bad luck! Having suffered bruised ribs and then a hip injury (ongoing) as a result of accidents on ice in recent winters, I will not cycle if there is any chance of ice. Hence today despite it being otherwise a nice day for a ride, I will resist the temptation, it's simply not worth it.

It was a skatingrink this morning. Someone came in andsaidthey saw a cyclist lose it on black ice, and another came in and said they saw 3 cars in the ditch on one stretch of road about 2 miles from here. I felt the front end step out as well once...is a massive wakeup call, but you can get away with it on 4 wheels.

Just very unlucky but also a big wake up call that accidents do happen. I agree with others as well if its icy why bother taking the risk if you don`t have to!

The cycle lane wouldn't have been gritted and the road would have right?
Are you suggesting that dedicated cycle paths should be gritted? Around this area, due to financial constraints, we are lucky if the bus routes get treated. Anywhere other than bus routes, and you take your chances!

Thanks, the track was ok but i was going down a little s bend slope and the sun was in my eyes even though i had glasses on and before i knew it a walker was in front of me and i went off the track and luckily i was wearing a helmet,it was one of them things where if he was on the other side of the path i would have gone straight past him, if he had moved i would have missed him, if i was going that little slower i might have seen him,if the sun wasn't at that awful angle i would have seen him quicker unfortunately everything went the wrong way lol
