Oooh, I used to be able to get that for a really nice price as a staple, but the supermarket that had it doesn't stock it anymore :-(

That came from Morrisons

Not the best, but when chilled on a warm afternoon it'll do nicely. Especially when Morrisons is knocking them out for £1 per bottle.

I'm scaling up, so you'd better get the party started.

Small batches have been moderately successful, so I figured in for a penny, in for a pound. Current romantic partner's drink of choice is Neck Oil so I've found a clone recipe to have a go at. Made a few judicious substitutions, mainly as it's got seven different hops in it so I thought I'd better use up some I already had.

Brewzilla was a good price, just needed a part for the pump. Let's see how it holds up, worst case scenario I end up with 20 litres of boiling wort all over my kitchen floor. Probably the wrong weather to be doing this but think of the refreshment available in a few weeks time...

View attachment 812404 These were given out at the end of the RttS, courtesy of the Brewery. An excellent beer, not too hoppy and plenty of taste.

Stewart Brewing also do beers for Lidl which are an occasional treat to myself. Picked up a couple this morning and there's at least one other (Pacific Breeze?) regularly available

Result of the first experiment using darker malts right here. Probably needs a bit more time conditioning but I'm thirsty and I want to use the growler (grrr) for lemonade for the kids in this weather.

So as well as the usual Maris Otter base it's got some crystal malt and brown malt. Used both Azacca and Cascade hops and put plenty in late in the boil to give it some flavour as well as bitterness.

Quite low ABV at 3.0% which is probably cos I used cheapo malt while I was waiting to put a proper order together. It's not as malty tasting as I was expecting and as you can see still quite pale but the volatile aromas of the hops are really coming through, and with that low strength it's really refreshing and perfect in this weather.

So not quite what I was expecting but actually really nice in the heat.

I used to like it alot as a good bitter, but they started mucking around with the recipe like Im sure they started using adjuncts to speed up the brewing process/cut costs etc, and since theyve been owned by Carlsberg theyve rapidly gone down hill as a brand, Im surprised its still 4.5% as Carlsberg cut the cask to 3.8% and Im sure it will be 3.4% before long.

and like its a trivial thing but it bugs me they still use the Burton Union system branding on it, when Carlsberg not only stopped them brewing using that method, but they werent even that keen on keeping the heritage of the only working version left, its only because Thornbridge stepped in and went, we could use that, it was preserved and continues to make beer today.

even for a £1 Id refuse it
