Nearly four hours later, it was calm enough to open cautiously.😉 Nice, but why's it a pale colour and not dark, like you'd expect a stout to be?🤔

White stouts were a bit of a fad a while back, but given it's a white chocolate stout I guess they thought they'd bring it back ?

I often find black lagers/IPAs and white stouts really disappointing, as there's a disconnect between what the eye sees and the tongue tastes. I had a whisky that was aged in a charred barrel as well once, which was disappointingly thin and weedy while it's dark colour suggested depth and warmth

Made the mistake of stopping at a Marstons pub for a beer this afternoon at the end of a bike ride. The only non lager or fruity cider options on draft were Neck Oil or Pedigree. As I wanted something cold I opted for the Neck Oil - £7.05 a pint and this is South Norfolk, not anywhere upmarket. Went for the Pedigree option for the second pint only to be told they didn't have any.

Took the early train home instead.

Marstons pubs were hived off from the brewery business when they "merged" with Carlsberg - who then proceeded to f*** around with the beers.

If they didn't sell in the proper glass, I wouldn't drink it ... 👍

The Belgian beer glass thing is a total con. Each brewery has its own glass because then they go on display behind the bar and form part of the advertising for the brand. With so many breweries this can end with domination of bars by specific brands/breweries, as you need an immense amount of space to have the correct glasses for everything.

That said, this is my beer glass collection

I'll actually drink something like Leffe from a standard tulip glass quite often though, it's fine. I did have to berate a mate who poured a Guinness draught into one though, that was just wrong. His brother also poured a dark Czech lager into a Guinness glass, which was wrong in a completely different way....
