Beer?

Because @ebikeerwidnes was feeling jealous and it's never nice for someone to feel left out, I thought maybe I should try and spread that feeling around!

Ordered some beer in for tomorrows World Champs men's elite road race in Montreal (mainly to ensure we had some beers lower than 10% to start us off...), had some lying around as well, started a list....

Two of these aren't actually Belgian!

Suspicious beers I'm not sure I'll ever drink, I'm not convinced I ever like Xmas beers

Haven't had a good look at the very dusty sours crate, because then I'll also feel jealous and left out - chronic acid reflux / heartburn hasn't let me properly enjoy a sour for a couple of years at least now. Still, at east they'll age nicely...

Thought you might might have ordered a nice world selection, not just mostly belgian....but its probably not easy to find decent quebec beer in dk!

The Kirkstall was recommended to me by a mate at work, it's a bit too sweet for me though and you can smell the oranginess as soon as you put it near your mouth.

Luckily I've got Northern Monk's roasty bitterness to save the day afterwards.

I get rather jealous on this thread - like it but

anyway - I have Coeliac Disease so have to avoid anything with gluten - which includes beer as it is made with barley

there are a few that I can drink as they are made a bit different - or treated after
but they seem to be very rare around here

except Perioni - there is always b****y Peroni


anyway - cider is fine

but in my mind cider is what you drink when you are 15 and on a camp site in Conwy without your parents
and similar


but I was wondering if there is any cider that might have a similar experience - not taste obviously - to a decent beer
proper beer - not cheap lager

the sort of thing that might be in normal pubs


any ideas??

Gluten Free beers are becoming a thing though, often vegan too for some reason, but it tends to mean theyre hazy/cloudy, but Im seeing them more and more on bars, especially craft bars on draft, just have to look at the beer boards for beers with a GF note next to them.

but I know what you mean about cider, my parents always bought a bottle from the local coop, so cider was always fizzy for me, and Ive never really got on with the kind of Somerset/SW style cider, that might taste nice, has huge abv sometimes, but feels as flat as a pancake in comparison.

so Id always go for an Aspalls, and not just because theyre a local brand and basically in every pub around here, but actually the stuff they make is very nice, and actually for once hasnt been ruined by being taken over by a massive global brewer, as oft seems to happen in the beer world.

but that deal has meant theyve become more geographically spread/available around the country too, so worth a look for.
