No pics but enjoying a March of the Penguins Stout - excellent as usual
Williams Bros, one of my favourite breweries.
You've just reminded me that I've not had any Double Joker for quite a while now.

all those bubbles stuck on the nonic bulge on the glass, as opposed to the head where they are supposed to be, is caused by left over grease residue from when it was put through the dishwasher.shame they dont clean the glasses properlyall those bubbles stuck on the nonic bulge on the glass, as opposed to the head where they are supposed to be, is caused by left over grease residue from when it was put through the dishwasher.
Was about to say the same. Standards going downhill, proper landlords wouldn't serve you that in my day [insert old man shouts at clouds Simpsons meme here]

Some spoons are pretty poor nowadays,
Understaffed which leads to long queues, poor service etc.
It could be their downfall ?
there have always been good and poor spoons imo, their franchise model kind of abit like all franchise models, increases that problem, but it as always comes down to the staff ultimately, a good bar manager or team lead will absolutely make the difference in service & cleanliness and all that stuff. and they do get tested on service time as part of the companies quality checks and if they dont meet them it impacts their bonus.
but really its the same in all pubs the staff who give a xxxx really make the difference the others just dont care and you feel it.
I was pondering this the other day in a pub Ive been frequenting for literally decades, longer than any of the current staff have been working there, and some of them have been working there for a least 10 years, but there are a couple who in that time have still never learnt how to spot which customer is next to serve. They literally just serve whoever is in front of them all the time. And Ive worked behind a bar, on a Friday and Saturday nights, I know when it gets really busy its tricky thing to do, but this is like a consistent even on a wet wednesday afternoon when theres barely anyone in. Unless you are one of their mates and then they get served straight away always.
which just reminds me of Spoons, because even in the better ones its just a free for all alot of the time
Don't worry, the Christmas amateurs will be in soon, that always makes things better...
- ordering a round where they mention the Guinness last
- ordering bloody cocktails
- queuing at the bar
- ordering individually
- being all bloody Christmassy on a wet Tuesday evening in November
- (craft beer bar special) wanting to taste every beer on the board when it's busy and people are waiting for a beer
I do actually avoid pubs in the run up to Christmas precisely for those reasons.Don't worry, the Christmas amateurs will be in soon, that always makes things better...
