I have to drop Mrs KB off somewhere tomorrow and leave the car. I could catch the train back but obviously it will be much better to cycle it as it is only 70km.

However, it will be in the dark and on roads I don't know. Is there an Android app which will give voice prompts without going through the entire battery in three hours? I've tried googling it but there doesn't seem to be much consensus.

Thanks.

Cheers all. Looks like Here Wego has a cycle mode (rather than just cycle in pedestrian mode) so will give that a try out today and see how it goes.

A pal of mine cycled from Lancashire down to Cornwall and back for a wedding using Google Maps. He just gave it the postcode for the day's destination YHA or B&B, pressed GO, turned off the screen, dropped the phone in a pocket and stuck an earphone in one ear for the directions. says it took him down some smashing routes and the battery life was no problem.

If you don't mind which way you go, just use google maps set to voice. You can either set it to bike which may involve unlit off road paths like canal paths or paths between houses etc or leave it on car mode avoiding highways. Also open google maps at home on your wifi to look at the area you will be going through so it loads the cache for the route then it will save it in case you lose signal it will still work on the gps signal.
If you want to use an app, you will need to plot the route on your pc and then on your phone you will need to go into the app and download the route before you leave your house, and then double check it's downloaded before you set off.
If you want voice cues on Ride With GPS you will need to subscribe to the paid version which is 6 dollars a month.
