A colourful end to a thirty-mile ride by starlight, with a stroll on the shimmering low-tide sands at Bexhill-on-Sea just before sunrise.

It can be a little spooky sometimes, pedalling all by my lonesome on the old marsh road at night....

An image inspired by an old railway poster promoting trips to the Sussex coast back in the glory days of railways and English seaside holidays.

There's a lovely old-fashioned quality about going for a spin along the old hedgerow lanes in the Sussex weald - it's like you somehow have stepped away for a while from the hurry-up world of the 21st century and found your way into a slower, gentler, pedal-paced age.

I've always liked the paintings of Edward Hopper and when I came upon this desolate street corner at 4:30am I couldn't resist making this tribute shot to his iconic painting Nighthawks:

I understand from someone who shows such things publicly that there is a problem with rights. But after seeing it decades ago in Italy I got it from my local library with 2 separate versions on the discs (can't remember the difference - possibly one english soundtrack, possibly the other Italian) - apart from its undoubted scariness, a convincing case has been made for certain psychological and political depths. (and there's a story behind where that late bar is set).

Absolutely fabulous photos. As a keen amateur I really appreciate them, they would make nice paintings as well.

Thank you. I'm not a fan of selfies either. Although I am by necessity the cyclist in the frame, I try to anonymise myself as much as possible - to make the images about A Cyclist in the landscape rather than about me as an individual.
