I keep a Nokia 130 in my pannier bag for emergencies, with a cheap PAYG sim in it.

Amazing battery life, cheap calls & texts and if I'm stuck and feeling nostalgic I can play snake.
Do you need to make sure youmake calls or texts to stop it being cut off?

Its on Co-Op mobile. I phoned them up asking if I'd loose my credit if i didn't use it, they said as long as it doesn't go 12 months without a chargeable action (such as a call/text) then the account is kept live and credit doesn't expire. If it goes 12 months without anything they they would cut it off.
At 8p/min and 4p texts I occasionally send my main mobile a text to keep it going.

My phone is insured for loss or damage via my bank account which covers for up to a £1000. £10 a month for 2x phones, 2x cars on brakedown and all the familly on holiday insurance. No brainer if you ask me.

Many thanks for all the replies and suggestions. On balance, I'm going to invest in a larger saddle bag so I can fit my phone in there (inside a waterproof bag) rather than having it in my back pocket. Cheers.
