Buy from your local bike shop where you can get a testride if unsure? This is the big issue with buying online from wiggle etc

Does it matter what it looks like with a flipped stem for commuting? Surely full mudguards etc are more important?

How tall are you?

Based on what you said, 58 with shorter stem or inline seatpost might work better. But it’s your £££
I have learnt my lesson on this one! I'm 6 foot with 33.5 inseam. I'm not sure what being too stretched should feel or look like?

I’d guess the 58 better if the 56 felt small. On my you can tell. Do you have to buy online blind?
I have both bikes just can't decide I have posted pics aat the top of this thread I prefer the feel of the 56 but I just feel I am to cramped up? And the seat to handle bar drop is a little big at just over 10 cm?

It's up to you unfortunately. It's easier to make a smaller bike a bit bigger but much harder the other way if the frame is fundamentally too big

I know you can t possibly fit me to a bike over the internet but do you notice anything glaringly problematic with the pictures I posted of me on the 2 bikes thanks for you help so far

I don't understand threads where the op asks for subjective opinions in order to lay out a chunk of change for something only they know if it works for them.

Bike fit for the masses is fundamentally take a few key measurements then go try some bikes, refining the choice across models/sizes available with the goal to finding the most comfortable. We're all differently proportioned (torso, leg, arm lengths) and thus not every bike will be suitable to people of the same height especially given riding styles are varied.

The pictures are neither detailed enough or framed or scaled the same to conclude anything.

Being told to not put any mileage on a bike is poor service - my advice is to go to a LBS, test ride some options, choose the best for you and give them your business
