Brompton - NHS - Crowdfunding

Very nice of them, but perhaps they could make an NHS Brompton with cheaper parts so the money goes further?
Bromptons are bloody expensive.

Yea a stripped down B75 model...wonder if folding could be binned, just to get them some wheels out

It is a noble gesture, but what of the other front line public servants that are exposing themselves daily to keep the country running?

Why can’t they just give them away and cover the cost themselves. It’s only a 1000 bikes; a days production?

Understand the need not to make a loss & cash maybe tight at the moment so do admire the use of Crowdfunding and if you give £250 you get your name on the bike to encourage large donors.

From what I read, a Brompton rides just as well as a full size bike.
Folk have done rtw tours on them.

By folk you mean masochists. They're eminently useable, but i'd contend they don't ride as well as a full sized steed.

No they dont, the bigger the wheel the better a bike rides, especially over our potholed streets.
There is two things Brommies are good at, acceleration being they have small wheels, but then you lose inertia quickly and have to keep putting the power down. Also they are excellent at combining cycling with commuting on public transport, because of the small size they pack down to.
The fold is the main point of Bromptons.

Perhaps the question should be... How many NHS staff who previously didn't cycle to work are a) now willing to try cycling to work, b) able to cycle to work, and c) don't already own a bicycle?
